Does anyone know how to fix the Steam error "There was a problem with your installation please reinstall Steam" because when I open LaunchIW5M it says something like "Steam must be running for initial authentication to succeed." I don't know what to do since I never used Steam to play before and everything was working normally.

Just hit the same error...seems like it was due to the new beta....Sadly, it also wiped my steamapps folder clear, so now I have to redownload 54GB of data ._.

 

You can try running steam with a "-clearbeta" attached next to its target.

yes, i play without steam. The first time that i tryto install 4d1 i get the same problem, i reinstall the game and work!

Apparently the problem wasn't with the beta, but with it recognizing the darksiders 2's steamclient.dll as the original .dll and running steam using that. Going to the registry and changing the path solved it.
