Hi,

When I try to open LaunchIW4M.exe, it crashes immediately without any error messages except the familiar Windows 7 "LaunchIW4M.exe has stopped working" with the following information provided:

Problem signature:
 Problem Event Name:	APPCRASH
 Application Name:	LaunchIW4M.exe
 Application Version:	0.0.0.0
 Application Timestamp:	4fbd2b4b
 Fault Module Name:	mscorwks.dll
 Fault Module Version:	2.0.50727.4971
 Fault Module Timestamp:	4ef6c883
 Exception Code:	c0000005
 Exception Offset:	00020454
 OS Version:	6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
 Locale ID:	1031

I also made a crash dump, you can download the file here (hope you are okay with zippyshare):

Some advice on what may cause the crash?

Hi and thanks for your responses,

As I understood reading other topics, the application freezes trying to connect to the server.

But for me, the launcher crashes immediately having caused a read access violation at address 0x0.

So I highly doubt it's even trying to connect to the server.

BTW, since when is the server down? I first experienced this issue yesterday at ~09:30 pm UTC.

That's not a problem with the masterserver. A problem with the masterserver would cause an iw4m.dat crash, and what's crashing there is LaunchIW4M.exe

The fault module would seem to point to a .net Framework problem, but since you have windows 7 (wich has .net Framework 3.5 built-in) I decided to google a bit on your problem.

This is what I found:

Hope it helps you

Hi,

You're right, it looks like my .net Framework installation is damaged. I also noticed I can't install Windows updates anymore.

However, fortunately Microsoft provides some information+fixes for the error I get when trying to install those updates, so I'll first try that. If this fails, I'm afraid I have to reinstall Windows once again...

Anyway, thanks for your efforts ;)

EDIT: I managed to get it working by doing an inplace upgrade of Windows 7 (some kind of reinstalling the system without touching installed third party software and data), which was the only working way to reinstall .net Framework 3.5.

Again, thanks for your help as you pointed me into the right direction.
