If you cant connect to online service (error: couldnt connect to mw3 server) even though you try to: reinstall game, update internet time, firewall off etc I have solution for you.

 

For windows 7 users: go to Control Panel\System and Security\Windows Firewall\Allowed Programs and check if you have added launchIW5M to list (must be private & public allowed), if you dont have this program on this list you MUST add it from your game directory (usually it is c/program files (x86)/MW3/launchIW5M), and mark both options (home/private & public).

 

Note:

 

If program is already there and both is marked you NEED to remove file from list, Copy launchIW5M from your download site to your game directory again and then add that new program to the list of exceptions.

Dont ask me why just do it, exe file sometimes get buged due update or win 7 is stupid enough to not recognize that program as exception any more.

 

Thats it, go ingame and connect, find your fav server and enjoy!

Checking the firewall and windows is the FIRST way to fix it and is mentioned countless times in the common errors thread. The connecting to online services, however, is not caused by a firewall issue (since the firwall will just block the initial connection and give you the CURL 7 error). The error is caused by a date and time mismatch between the server and the client and we already have provided an effective guide to fix it in the common errors thread's. #31

aabir you are so wrong m8...time update fix only connecting error if you are trying to enter some server.

And yes i saw your post it didnt help me with this problem (there is no server list since you cant connect to online service).

And yes i had program in exceptions (firewalls of/on doesnt make any change) but I finally solved problem once i did exactly like in my note.

If you disable windows firewall on your active connection type, yes, it does change.

I can say that it was a coincidence that the game started working, because LaunchIW5M.exe is only the game's updater. All the connections from the game itself come from iw5m.dat

So, adding LaunchIW5M.exe to the firewall exceptions will have no effect at all, since LaunchIW5M.exe (IW5M's updater) doesn't even upload any data.

Well I dont understand either but yes it works, thing I dont understand is this: I had launchIW5M in exceptions with both marked (private/public), game was working just fine and in middle of the game I got DC and couldnt connect to online service anymore (!?).

I tried so many things from this forum, I even reinstalled everything but nothing helped.

So after so many things I did removing launchIW5M from exceptions, making another copy to game folder and placing him again to exceptions was something I did for joke and next thing you know I was playing the game.

Not trying to be a smart ass on this subject, just trying to help others.

I know that you're trying to help, and we apreciate that.

But it wasn't LaunchIW5M.exe exception that fixed it. When you launched the game from another folder, it prompted you to allow the application on the firewall again (wich you obviously accepted). But that application on the prompt was actualliy iw5m.dat

So, accepting iw5m.dat firewall exception prompt was what actually fixed it. And that's the information that we have to give to our users, rather than having them adding LaunchIW5M.exe on the firewall exceptions and expecting it to work.
