So i have some friends that are playing modern warfare 2 bought on steam, and they dont really want to download iw4. So this is why i am asking: can i play with my friends (not on the dedicated servers)?

if you got it legit yes you can join them via steam

if you didn't bought it no...

then your friends have to download 4D1
