Ping jumping to 999...solution?

Anyone else have this problem or know the cure? One minute the ping is fine and then it can jump as high as 999. This happens a quite a lot and makes game fairly unplayable. I'm using revision r82 client.

I also had this problem with the old alterIWnet client but the solution was to set 'enable updates' and 'enable upload' to 0 in the .ini file. Here there's no such options in any .ini file. Please help.
