So I love Dedicated servers on MW2..and I hope this new approach will be accepted by Activision as legal, but if someone could answer a few questions..

1. I own MW2 on steam but I do not own the DLCs, how will this affect me?

2. What are the odds of this project meeting the "legal" requirement, indefinitely?

3. Will the anticheat have to be reworked?

4. How will this legal mod work with steam? I understand it will check for legitimate copies via steam accounts, but will the new xuid's or FDO(fourDeltaOne) accounts be linked to your steam account in some way?

5.Will bans be carried over from the old anticheat or will there be a fiesta of cheaters for the first few weeks?

6.Considering the letter from Activision..it seems they realize NTA's skill and achievements in further developing PC MW2 but acted on the pirated versions being able to play and the pursuit of aBO and aMW3, are we safe this time around? Staying only with MW2 and forcing legitimate copies of the game etc? Will Activision accept this? I am a bit concerned for NTA as I was under the impression the letter stated they wanted him not to embark on something like this again, even if the new project meets legal standard will it be allowed considering his past project and what the letter stated?

7. Are the new maps going to be in the new project (Oil Rig etc) or wouldn't that fall under the "Unfair Competition" considering MW2 sold maps as DLCs

1. Good question. (Doubt activision would care to much about some dlc from a few CODs back)

2. You bought it, you can mod it, somewhat of the same thing with iphones and jailbreaking

3. ACI will still be implemented methinks, but there may be additions such as checking your SteamID

4. Likely the mod will work the same as last time, replace files in your mw2 folder, then play. (Personally since the game must authenticate a valid steam account, issuing bans against SteamIDs will be more effective than XUID/ip bans)

5. No idea, lets hope for the best (although there won't be that many cheaters who legitimately own mw2.. I hope. And there were a few aci databases you could crosscheck your xuid against to see if you were banned. So a backup likely persists.)

6. If a project meets legal standards it is legal. We own the game, we can modify the game.

7. I believe the new maps will be included at some point in time (team didn't say no more v2 at viewtopic.php?f=7&t=129 ) Unfair competition would be them selling the new maps, or re-marketing the old ones I believe.

1. This decision hasn't been finalized yet, most likely only the base game will be checked.

2. Activision get their money, this doesn't cause any loss to them. (If we make something good, it could also boost their profits, too)

3. Re-worked? No. Worked on? Probably.

4. Will most likely have the game linked to a steam account, including bans and so forth.

5. This is trivial to do, but nowadays most bans are aCI anyhow.

6. Same as #2.

7. They will be in IW4M.

How will they verify it?That's my question, the thing is i reall don't want to pay for MW2 since none of the money goes to NTa and only to activision which will just boost their sales and still NTa might* get into trouble for that lol...So if i have a friend who doesn't want to play on Alter, can i just verify with his account?

And if they are linked to Steam accounts, I assume steam will have to be running to play or is it just going to check your Steam Id for the legal copy of the game? However..if this is the case couldn't people just find someone on a css server or l4d who owns mw2 and use the console to copy there steam id, thus allowing them to play+not care if banned cuz can just repeat, altho hardly no one plays MW2 on Steam alot of people did buy it and never play it anymore so if the check just needs a Steam ID with a legal copy of MW2 on it could be problems, if you actually have to own the steam account tho, as in verify ownership somehow they couldn't do that

Oh and one more thing, Ive already been using "legit" mw2 files, aside from the DLCs..to play aIW(copy pasted from c:/steam/account/common/modernwarefare2, just added DLC files and aIW files)

With the new version, will I have to redownload Mw2 from steam and re-patch everything or can I just copy paste the current aIW folder and then patch over it with the new version? I ask because my connection is 780K DSL, so downloading is slow :(, I have the discs tho but still Steam is going to want to patch it as soon as its installed
