sorry if this been answered before..

today got installer from your site

did everything that was in youtube tutorial

it downloaded and installed everything fine

when i try to launch asks for my login|pass on forum - i enter them - fine

but then it shows error 345 in comctl32.dll. if i ignore it (press ok ok ok ok) it launches the game menu (new game, options etc) but after 10-15 seconds crashes into black screen even when i touch nothing. deleted and reinstalled fd1 program - no change. went into single player - works fine

no errors no issues for couple levels at least. some 10-20 mins of gameplay. so i suppose the game itself works fine...

i'm on win7 x64 sp1 + all windowsupdates to this day

i had this same copy of game working fine with alteriwnet.. maybe some parts of it still installed prevent the new system from working? anyways i can't really reinstall the game from scratch as i no longer have the installer files

if you need the exact screenshot of the error i can post it but it's in russian (i have russian windows) and it just says what i wrote)

sorry for my bad english. hope it's understandable) thanks for your help in advance)

after some times playing around with black screen i found that pressing ctrlaltdel reveals a new error window - one that was discussed here about preview_mp_compact

so i need to download iw22 and 23 to fix.. will try..

will not edit out my error report until fixed

but hang on with your suggestions for now

thank you

ok

this far i tried to join games successfully the error with comctl32 still is here but it doesn't affect anything

i guess i just have to download a bunch of files (maps from dlc i presume) to have a play

mods if you wish so - delete my topic completely or leave it or have me edit it - whichever suits you more

i think it's resolved and i was just too fast to post before browsing thru all of the forum and catching all of my erorrs)

sorry for that!)

so i finally tracked down the initial comctl32 error

thing is i'm running 4d1 on a notebook with 2 GPUs (intel hd something on my CPU and nvidia m310) they are switched by something called nvidia optimus. essentially it turns on nvidia 1 gig GPU when it is needed (games, hard graphics etc) by itself (well it has a list of programs that need fast GPU in it's drivers/software which you need to update to get the latest games to work and switch properly)

but unfortunately it doesn't know anything about fd1 (

you can manually edit the list but it doesn't help. so you end up playing on low end gpu instead of fast one.

and you get the comctl error

if you right click the icon which loads fd1 - you have a menu for selection which gpu should run the program

that's it! you select your fast gpu (in my case nvidia 310) and BAM! you don't get the error and your game runs like 10 times faster!

i recommend switching on the tray icon which shows if nvidia GPU is being used (it's in nvidia's settings - look for it) it turns green when active and if you click it - shows which programs use nvidia GPU
