Unable to successfully bind timescale to a key

Need some help with this.

 

Tried this:

 

/bind KP_LEFTARROW "timescale 0.5"

 

then...

 

/devmap mp_terminal; wait 5; disconnect

/demo DEMONAME

 

press left arrow... nothing happens. Tried different buttons, skipping the devmap part, all to no avail. So how do I get this to work?
