I first want to thank you all for this wonderful program! This is really, really impressive!

 

Now: question time. Is it possible to set up a dedicated server to use over LAN only? I'm asking this because I'm planning a huge LAN Party with my friends and we would like avoid going online since we don't have a decent internet connection. Creating a direct connection between our PC will definitely help us reduce lag.

Well, it's a bit tricky.

You need an internet connection to be able to start the server. But then you don't even need to forward ports if people on the local network use connect command (it won't get on the serverlist if you don't forward ports).

Just start the server and tell people to connect to it using your IP and your server's game port. Example:

connect 192.168.1.155:27015

I'll give it a try and I'll let you know if it works!

btw, I noticed that I can set the "+set dedicated 1" for the server. Hopefully, this will help.

That command is useless. You'll always need an internet connection for the server to start, and to forward ports to get it on the serverlist.

p.s.: keep in mind that although you don't have to forward ports to allow local connections, you have to allow those ports/application through your computer's firewall.
