Hi, yesterday I had the urge to play CoD: MW2 and found the sad fate of alterIW, but quickly found 4D1.

So I freshly re-installed my CoD: MW2, downloaded the InstallW4M.exe, ran it, and it installed 4D1 and updated it.

When I open the game it seems to be running perfectly, however, past ~8 seconds after launch, the screen shows only black, and an "invisible" black rectangle on the upper left that covers most of the screen and hides my mouse (I'm assuming this is the default resolution of the game, which is smaller than my desktop resolution, 1680x1050). The game music keeps going, and the only way to stop this is if I ctrl + alt + tab.

 

When I open the Task Manager, I can the black rectangle remains there, hiding most of my screen. The rest I can see fine, and I can even use the computer as normal, I can't however, check what the error is. On the task-bar there are 3 CoD : MW2 instances running, and nothing happens when I click on them. I can't check what the error says.

 

On the tab Applications, it says:

- Error : Running

- IW4 Console : Not Responding

- Modern Warfare 2 : Not Responding

 

My computer specs are as follows:

Intel Core i7 CPU 870 @ 2.93Ghz, 4GB RAM, ASUS EAH5770 Series, Windows 7 ultimate 64-bit SP1

 

Hopefully someone can shed some light on my problem

When the screen is black, hit alt+tab or alt+enter and you'll see the error. I guess it's DLC missing or something like that. You can check here for solution:

I can't alt+tab nor alt+enter, nothing happens.

No, I don't have any DLC. Do I need to have the latest official patch?

Ok, so I downloaded the DLC and everything seems to be working perfectly. Problem solved

First try this: start the game, when the black screen is appeared, press alt+escape,then alt+tab.If nothing happened, then go to your MW 2 main directory, open "players", then open config_m2.cfg with notepad, press ctrl+f and search this: "seta r_fullscreen "1",then change "1" to "0" and safe the file. Start the game(the game will start in windowed mode) and you will see the error. Then go to the topic above and search your error.(not exactly your, but the game error)
