Java is good for lower end games.... anything with high end graphics will suffer in Java. Go with c++ and find a pre made game engine and use that.

yup with engines like blender you can almost do what unity3D can do

Java is a cross platform language without the need for recompilation, deploy-able over the web, has a fully functional set of libraries included, and is easy to learn.... And the only reason I said lower end games is because minecraft is written in java.
