Ok here is the deal , my friend's dad is assembling a pc for his son . He can assemble the pc no prob but he need's a little help in choosing the components and he came to me . I haven't made a custom build in about 7 -8 months so since some of the components are pretty new i am need some help here.

here is the list

Western Digital 2TB SATA 6Gbps Power Saving Internal Hard Drive OEM - Caviar Green

Gigabyte Intel Z77 LGA 1155 AMD CrossFireX/NVIDIA SLI DVI/HDMI/DisplayPort Dual UEFI BIOS mATX Motherboard G1.SNIPER M3

2x Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 OC 2 GB DDR5 HDMI/DVI-I/Dual Mini DP PCI-Express Graphics Card 11200-01-20G

Corsair CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 DDR3 XMS3 8GB Desktop Memory

Corsair Enthusiast TX V2 Series 850-Watt 80 Plus Bronze Certified High Performance Modular Power Supply CP-9020004-NA

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo

Coolermaster, CM 690 II Advanced (all black)

Intel Core i7 3770K processor 3.5 4 LGA 1155

i added this to my shopping cart in amazon and it ended up in 1,552$

and seamed reasonable.

Now can someone tell me is the build good, i know that it's feasible but look's expensive. Are there cheaper parts that give me the same or better performance ? Is any of the parts overkill in relation to the others ? Btw the owner will be OC'ing the machine , but i don't want to go with liquid cooling, the hyper 212 is the best air cooler i know is it enough for a decent overclock ?

Get Sandy Bridge, Ivy Bridge is a terrible overclocker.

Get a Crucial M4, Samsung 830 OR an Intel SSD, you DO NOT want a Caviar Green as bootdrive.

Since the case supports the ATX format, swap the micro-ATX motherboard for an ATX motherboard, preferably something from Gigabyte, Asus, MSI or Asrock. Those so-called ''gaming'' motherboards are a waste of money and you're better off getting something like the MSI Z77A-GD65.

Swap the i7 3770k, like I said, for an i5 2500k/i5 2550k. i7's are terrible for gaming and the i5 performs the same and better is some cases. i7s are not worth the extra money for a gaming PC.

Get a single GTX 670 instead of 2 7850s, this will save money in the future (energy usage). Also, less heat and noise.

And you'll might want to swap the stock fan from the Hyper 212 EVO for a Noctua NF-P12, the stock fan is loud.

ok i me and my friend's dad checked out what you said

this is the new list :

Radeon HD 7970 3 GB GDDR5 ( i am an amd guy when it comes to gpu's , I can't in good conscience recommend the nvida card)

Gigabyte Intel Z77 LGA 1155 ATX Motherboard GA-Z77X-UD5H ( He picked the mobo tough good bad worse ? help me out )

Intel Core i5 2500K Processor 3.3 GHz 4 Core LGA 1155 ( I had fun times OC'ing this beast and have good things only to say about it )

2 xCorsair CMX8GX3M2A1600C9 DDR3 XMS3 8GB Desktop Memory (he forgot to mention he wanted 16 gb in the start)

Corsair Enthusiast TX V2 Series 850-Watt 80 Plus Bronze Certified High Performance Modular Power Supply CP-9020004-NA

Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo ( noise is not a problem )

Coolermaster, CM 690 II Advanced (all black)

Western Digital 1.5 TB Caviar Black SATA 6 Gb/s 7200 RPM 64 MB Cache ( Arthur laughed his ass off when i told him he had picked a caviar green as the boot drive . Apparently he he made a mistake )

So 3 major changes but the initial question is here again is it good is it bad ? Or am I still making rookie mistakes ?

I prefer AMD over Nvidia as well, but at this point the 670 has a better price/performance than the 7970. A MSI GTX 670 is €364 here and a Powercolor 7970 is €385, both are the cheapest of each, the GTX 670 is way better in some games than the 7970 and has Physx support.

Gigabyte Intel Z77 LGA 1155 ATX Motherboard GA-Z77X-UD5H ( He picked the mobo tough good bad worse ? help me out )

Is there any specific reason he wants that board besides brand loyalty both the Asus P8Z77-V Pro and MSI Z77A-GD65 are more cost efficient alternatives.

Why does he want 16GB? If all he's going to do is playing games and non-professional editing then he doesn't need more than 8.

What's his budget? I'm pretty sure he could add a SSD to the build as bootdrive.

No i will go with the 7970 , beside nor me nor the actual person this pc is gonna be for likes nvidea at all , so it would be a kick in the balls to the guy

It was because he could get a huge discount on it ( 60 % huge) but i told him about the MSI Z77A-GD65 and apparently he can get it on that one too so i think we will go with the MSI Z77A-GD65 -LGA1155

No his father does some audio editing that is what the 16 gb are for (the actual audio parts he has them already that is why they aren't hear)

The thing is paying 120 or 110 bucks for a small speed boost is complicated

Unless it's possible to make it work with a 32 gb it's not enough bang for the buck you know?

Do you think a 32 gb would be enough to speed up widows ? If so please tell me the brand you prefer .

Or if you could tell me a brand with a 64gb model that doesn't go over the 75 bucks price mark.

btw thanks for the help i know i am being a huge pain in the ass , but it's a lot of money and i can't just say something if i know he will buy it for sure without major certainty

Oh, alright.

Well, if the discount is that huge that it will be cheaper than any other high-end board, he could do it.

Wait, is his father going to use the PC as well? Because if his father does professional audio editing, then he'll might want to get an i7 2600k/2700k.

Crucial M4 64GB. €64,- here in the Netherlands, $72,- in the USA.

>small speedboost

>the M4 is nearly 4 times faster than a Spinpoint F3 HD103SJ (420MB/s (FW0002) vs 150MB/s both read speeds)

btw thanks for the hell i know i am being a huge pain in the ass , but it's a lot of money and i can't just say something if i know he will buy it for sure without major certainty

ok this is Arthur the tools i use are not so much cpu intensive as much as about 13 to 14 different programs opened at the same time so i need a lot of ram but any dual core with the right tools would do the job cpu wise.

copied that right from msn
