Is there a way to host private matches? Like say, I host my own private match, and give my friend my ip, so that he can join via the console command '/connect '?

 

Is there any alternative other than using a dedicated server?

Ummm if you use hamachi, otherwise you will have to port forward, which presuming you not wanting to set up a dedicated server you either cant do or cant be stuffed
