My current PC config is :

AMD Athlon II X2 250

9800GT

4GB Ram

450W

My question is : is it a bad idea to change my 9800 gt to a palit daytona gtx 560 se ? Resolution is not a problem because I have a TV/Monitor which has a 1080P resolution.Or should I change my processor to this http://www.emag.ro/procesoare/procesor- ... 41XWNGXBOX ?

Or should I change them both ?

Thanks.

Well from the looks of it, you will need much more than just a graphics card. Thats the problem with upgrading just one part. Sometimes you get screwed and can be forced to upgrade all parts. (I know from personal experience T_T)

That GTX 560 SE most likely requires over a 500watt PSU. Yours at 450 isn't good enough, so if you wanted that graphics card, you'll need a new power supply no matter what.

In regards to the 560 SE, do you have other choices of graphic cards? Cause this one isn't one of the better ones.

As to either choosing a graphics card or quad core... ideally, you'll eventually need both. Your RAM is kinda low though.

In conclusion, this is what I recommend:

CPU: Not a priority, but if you can upgrade it to that quad core, go for it. (Maybe look for a cheaper quad core though, @ around 2.5Ghz or 2.66Ghz.

RAM: Is important. 4GB is relatively low. Many of the newer games, BF3, MOH, etc require a minimum of 3GB RAM. You'll be lagging 5 minutes into a round of BF3(if you ever chose to play bf3).

VIDEO: You are kinda stuck. The video card choice, 560 SE, is okay. If you have more choices to look at, we could discuss that. Either way though, at this point, almost all graphic cards, the newer ones, require a minimum of 500watts as the power supply. 450 just won't cut it.

PSU: Upgrade the power supply first. I would call this top priority.

All in all, this is the order I would go in:

If you want to play BF3/MOH type games(newer): Power Supply(Over 500 watts)>Motherboard(a newer one that supports AM3 sockets)>Cpu>Ram(try to upgrade to 6GB, or 8GB if possible)>Graphics Card(imo, stay away from SE versions. Your 9800GT will run BF3/MOH on lowest settings/mid settings just fine, and I'm sure you're running MW2 on all high already. So a GTX can wait.

If you want to stick only to FD1, COD4, Old Games: Power Supply(over 500 watts)> Ram(minimum of 6GB for now, 8GB when possible)>Graphics Card(Something like a GTS 250, or GTX 260 would work great... also cheaper imo.)

Good luck!

Regards

P.S Is there any other site you can buy from? emag has high prices.

I found this processor at another site http://www.pcgarage.ro/procesoare/amd/p ... am3/.Sadly for video cards, emag is the place to go for me.And I am a bf3 player and my pc does well on medium settings.FPS start to go into the shitty 15-20 zone on high tough.

Yeah, but having that low ram also causes some of that lag.

And I see what you mean... Romania only has a few tech sites. :/ Its not a horrible graphics card, or processor, but you need to upgrade a few things before that.

Hmm found a PSU http://www.emag.ro/surse/sursa-inter-te ... w--pSL-700.

I am such a noob at these things.Anyway, please tell me if that PSU is good. Here is what I am going to do if it is good : Buy the PSU when I buy the video card, then later buy the CPU.What do you think ?Also,I am going to spend some money on the ram later this year but not right now.

Oh god no, that PSU would turn your PC into fireworks under heavy load, go with a quality PSU, Seasonic, Antec, Corsair and XFX make decent PSUs.

As soon as you have a decent 500-600W PSU, you can upgrade your graphics card. I don't know the performance of the 560 SE, but it is likely that it will get bottlenecked by your current CPU. The Phenom II X4 955 BE is supported on your motherboard since BIOS version P1.80, so if you get a decent PSU, you could upgrade it to a 955 BE. The 955 BE is pretty cheap nowadays.

I've played BF3 with both 4GB and 8GB on this rig and the difference in performance is not big at all.

And his current motherboard supports AM3, what makes you think it doesn't support AM3?

Alright I think this PSU will do the trick http://www.pcgarage.ro/surse/sirtec-hig ... plus-500w/.

Since my bday is in september,I will get that psu if it is good enough + the 560gtx + that phenom 2 quad processor.

Nice upgrade no? lol

Its a really low end PSU.. but I think it will work fine.

He's playing a few games. Not hosting a master server for Dice. That PSU will do just fine. /facepalm

SE = Sucky Edition. Its just a more cut down version of the 560ti, or 560 itself. The 560 SE only has like 288 cores or something like that. The normal GTX 560 has 336. So, performance isn't as high, but it won't be horrible. I do recommend you look for something lower than that price, for something comparable.

Same. My current machine had 4GB of RAM, but because I run multiple programs in the background, after maybe 15 minutes of BF3, FPS would slowly drop, CPU bottlenecks, etc. Increased my RAM, and now I can multi-task while gaming.

And his current motherboard supports AM3, what makes you think it doesn't support AM3?

Yes, I know it does. AM3 goes backwards. Its just his motherboard is somewhat outdated. Wouldn't hurt to get a newer one if he had the chance. More PCI slots, more RAM slots, DDR3, etc.

Well, your 9800GT isn't bad. You can easily overclock it with nTune. I'd keep the video card, buy a new PSU and more RAM. But its all up to you chief. If you have the extra money, the 2nd PSU you showed us, the black one, is better than the first. I'd go with the 2nd one personally, but if you don't have the $$, go with the 1st.

The fact that the PSU costs roughly €30,- and the fact that I can't find any reviews about it makes me want him to dodge the PSU and get a better one instead.

Well, if that's the case, then he'll might as well just get a HD 6850 or even a HD 6790.

A new motherboard would not hurt indeed, but more PCI slots does not necessarily mean he's going to use them.

I think I'm going to go with unit1stealth's advice to drop the 560 SE.

Nice upgrade no? lol

The bold text is my reply.

Its a low end PSU, no doubt. Many won't have a review. Not to mention if its from Romania. Lets just say their tech isn't up-to-par.

Well, if that's the case, then he'll might as well just get a HD 6850 or even a HD 6790.

Imo, Radeon sucks. Had a few of them. Saw nVidia as a better choice, and can be cheaper for like or better performance.

More Ram slots would be my reason for getting a new mobo, and to support newer CPUs.

Well, that's your opinion, I've had graphics cards from both AMD and Nvidia, IGPs from Intel and VIA/S3G and I've never had any problems with any of those but Intel. Nvidia's budget cards often have terrible price/performance, even the old cards have terrible price/performance.

EDIT:

Just came across this video, you (and probably many other people) should have a look at it.
