Dedicated server port keeps changing

Опубликовано:

Hey guys, My dedicated server's port keeps changing and I have no idea why, it was working fine a few days ago. Now it does not work and changes ports every time I launch the server. Can't even find my server in my own serverlist, and yes you can see your own server in the serverlist.

What are the ports it's changing to/between? Give us some examples.

If the server port keeps changing, that means that the server couldn't use the one defined on net_port command.

Either the port is blocked or being used by another process.

Yes, it might be that you're running your server and client on the same machine. Always start your server first.

Calm down... MetallicaSoad, I think your problem is different, although having the same symptoms. That's why you shouldn't post your problems on somebody else's thread.

Anyway, I'm gonna try to answer both.

@MetallicaSoad, I think your problem is that the ports are blocked on the router (maybe you have some Thomson TG series or something similar). Either blocked, or the server's port is not forwarded to the computer running the dedicated server.

Go to portforward.com to see how to open ports on your router.

@Monstah?, you could fit on the same situation, except that you say that the server was running before. And since you said that you're trying to use port 28962 for the server, that puts away the possibility of being the client taking the port.

So, I'll give you 3 possible causes:

1- The router had some failture or some firmware update that resetted it's settings.

2- your internal IP changed. So, the forwarding is not working since it's pointing the port to another internal address.

3- some other process is using that port. Do you have any other CoD server running on that machine? CoD4 or CoDWaW also tend to use a port range starting in 28960+

(since I was gonna answer to Monstah?, I felt like adding some extra info for you too)

Wait... I'm angry now? o.O

Anyways thanks Paul i'm just Monstah's friend trying to help him that's why i posted here, he has a Thomson TG782T and we've already port forwarded. Just suddenly the ports started changing, even after we reset his router it's not working.

Then I doubt that you'll be able to get the server running online with that router.

I had a Thomson TG787 (the one provided by my ISP) and I just had to buy a router myself.

Seems that with the latest firmware versions, the ports will get forwarded, but not open... Preset ports (like port 80) will work, but custom application ports will not. (stupid, but true).

All other routers that I tried to forward ports for my friends worked, except for these Thomson TG series...

Right now I have a low budget TP-Link that never failed me.
