Hey everyone,

 

So i manged to setup my own server for IW4M hosting it on my local PC and it was fun, i now want to take it to the next level and set it up as a dedicated server so I'm thinking of a windows VPS to host it from as this will be online 24/7 and have better speeds.

 

I know abit about linux servers and that there cheaper but i want windows for ease of management.

 

Anyone know any good server providers, with say 1gig ram, at least 1 dedicated core, 10GB disk space, the rest of the spec is not as important i don't think. I'm looking for the server to be UK based or at very least Europe based.

 

I did look at game server providers who sell the servers setup and price it per player slots but i want to do more with the server like add multiple games and a teamspeak server so a typical game server wont cut it, it needs to be a VPS with Remote Desktop.

 

Any suggestions would be much appreciated, i've search google for hours and found a few priced at around ВЈ15 a month so seeing if i can find anything cheaper than this

windows for ease of management.

On topic, it depends where you are located, I know that here (France) certain sites don't let you buy them if you are from a different country. And I don't know any UK-based hosts.

Personally, I would get some small Linux vps with about 2gb ram. It will be a lot more stable and easy to use once you get the hang of it. Windows VPS' will cost you a load more, too.

lol at GrossKopf, i thought what the hell are you on when you posted that but then i seen your second post explaining hehe. Checked out that link you suggested there prices seem reasonable.

 

In the end i went with vmhosts dot co dot uk i've got 50% off for the first 6 months so plenty of time to play around and test out the services. Almost finished installing all the files and about to put the server live in the next half hour with the zombie mod

 

Thanks to everyone who posted, also a heads up for anyone who gets a windows server with 2008 on it lookup windows/winsxs folder it is ridiculously large and took up 50% of my 20GB disk so had to upgrade to 40GB almost immediately after ordering whilst i work out a fix if there is one but my searches are running thin

 

I might consider looking at a linux box if i keep my server up for a few months it will be worth the time investment learning it.

 

One good thing is now i have my server setup soon i can use the stupidly fast connection speeds of server to move all my files around promptly without slow upload speeds getting in the way lol
