Today I had to steam while I drove iw5m. But I did not put the game to no steam games. But still, I could activate it you know alt + shift. But when steam is not running on the computer, nothing happens. But why open iw5m with steam when I have not even added it on non steam games.

Because MW3 is launched through Steam if you own it on Steam. At least, that's my understanding to it.
