Ask your friend if the server is visible on the serverlist because its highly likely your router is unable to query your own IP Address. If your friend cannot see the server, then you haven't forwarded your ports properly or your firewall is blocking the port.

So you are able to start the installer of IW4M but not the game?

Restart your router, it could be that the uPnP is acting weird.
