The US ambassador to Libya is among four Americans killed in an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, President Barack Obama has confirmed.

 

Unidentified armed men stormed the grounds overnight amid uproar among Muslims over a US-produced film said to insult the Prophet Muhammad.

Protesters angry about an online video considered offensive to Islam attacked U.S. diplomatic compounds in Libya and Egypt on Tuesday, killing U.S. Ambassador John Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, Libyan officials said on Wednesday.

 

Libyan Deputy Interior Minister Wanis al-Sharif said during a news conference that Stevens died in a local hospital after being attacked by protesters at the U.S. consulate in the Libyan port city of Benghazi, which served as the country's rebel capital until they captured Tripoli last year.

 

Libyan Deputy Prime Minister Mustafa Abushagur strongly condemned the attack in messages on his official Twitter account. "Amb. Stevens was a friend of Libya and we are shocked at the attacks on the US consulate in Benghazi," he wrote. "I condemn these barbaric acts in the strongest possible terms. This is an attack on America, Libya and free people everywhere."

The heaviest violence came in Sudan, where a prominent sheik on state radio urged protesters to march on the German Embassy to protest alleged anti-Muslim graffiti on mosques in Berlin and then to the U.S. Embassy to protest the film.

Do you seriously stand by this kind of feigned outrage or do you just have a chip on your shoulder because your own life is so miserable? This particular assault on the German embassy is great evidence that these extremists will attack at the very whim of their puppeteers....thinking isn't part of the routine, period. Salafis should be banned and treated like the civil terrorists they are - their ultimate goal is obviously to usurp their own national governments and replace them with an even harder Islamic state so they can go back to terrorizing minority groups.

I think people misinterpret my statement as patriotism, when there was no such intention. My gripe is with the radical islamic element in these countries who in effect are nothing more than large, easily excitable mobs of fundamentalists. No group of people should have to fear this kind of tyranny, so I'm hoping that steps are taken in these nations to shut them down.

Don't forget that we have our own kind of tyrants. Your gripe is due to the fact that you are viewing things from an occidental point of view; we are told that those people are evil, just for us to temporally forget the evilness of our own system. This cut both ways: a lot of people from the Middle East see Occident as a nest of evil...

I am not "told" anything - I make my own judgments based on multiple sources and personal experience. You may think me a fool but you would be sorely mistaken. These hardcore Islamists wish to push society back hundreds of years where minority groups are treated like crap, women are property and the only purpose a person has is to advance their religion. I will never apologize for my view that societies that treat people in such a manner are utterly barbaric and should be forced into the 21st century.

Killing the ambassador is a non-Islamic act done by an extremist Islamic group in Libya. I hope this will not be done again in future. RIP.
