The US ambassador to Libya is among four Americans killed in an attack on the US consulate in Benghazi, President Barack Obama has confirmed.

Unidentified armed men stormed the grounds overnight amid uproar among Muslims over a US-produced film said to insult the Prophet Muhammad.

(Would've used the IMG code, but there's no spoiler function for minors.)

Protesters angry about an online video considered offensive to Islam attacked U.S. diplomatic compounds in Libya and Egypt on Tuesday, killing U.S. Ambassador John Christopher Stevens and three other Americans, Libyan officials said on Wednesday.

Libyan Deputy Interior Minister Wanis al-Sharif said during a news conference that Stevens died in a local hospital after being attacked by protesters at the U.S. consulate in the Libyan port city of Benghazi, which served as the country's rebel capital until they captured Tripoli last year.

Libyan Deputy Prime Minister Mustafa Abushagur strongly condemned the attack in messages on his official Twitter account. "Amb. Stevens was a friend of Libya and we are shocked at the attacks on the US consulate in Benghazi," he wrote. "I condemn these barbaric acts in the strongest possible terms. This is an attack on America, Libya and free people everywhere."

And this, kids, is why religion sometimes is a bad thing.

What the hell did these guys think? Oh, some American made a video that makes fun of our prophet, let's kill other Americans because they sure as fuck have something to do with it!

Get used to it, people will always insult other people.

Pretty sure the Americans did the same about 9/11

Exactly. In my opinion it's just foolish to think everyone in a certain country agrees with stupid things some people from that country do.

If my earlier statement sounded racist in any way I apologise.

Didn't I tell you we'll see some drama here in my last post.

Oh look!

Yes I did.

Apparently any sensible discussion among two agreeing parties is "drama". What counts as normal in your books? The "I <3 BREAD" "NO NO CHICKEN 4 EVAR!' threads? This isn't /dev/urandom.

Religion made people die since its very beginning... many things have changed, but up to this day that stays the same.

That's why I stopped discussing about it. If in more than a thousand years no agreement was reached, nothing will change in the following 70 or so years, so I'll just have a happy life away from those discussions.

It's sad to see this kind of news in our era.

RIP Ambassador Stevens, and the 3 other diplomats who died with him.

One thing I was happy to see were protests the next day in support of non-violence and that the terror actions did not represent all Muslims. Whether they were sincere or not, is anyone's guess - but it was a positive event nonetheless.

Edit: Interesting title I was given - thanks, lol

it's your in-game title

Anyway... just what kind of idiot wants to anger muslims? Of all religious groups, they are surely the most sensitive and have a considerable number of radicals. Not to mention that they even broke one of the ten commandments by killing the ambassador... just goes to show how far they would go over the line, from defending their beliefs to stepping on it.

Ah, ok. You know, I think while provoking any group is a poor choice, I think that everybody should have the right to freedom of speech and expression, regardless of political views or whom it may anger. Absolutely nobody should live in fear of physically violent thugs.

I have a feeling, though, that these attacks would have happened regardless of the identified provocation. The fact that this occurred on 9/11 is certainly no coincident. Radical imams such as those of the salafi sect know how to whip up hatred very quickly from their crazed, brainwashed followers, and have caused problems in other countries as well outside of Libya. Hopefully, once the state stabilizes and the Libyan government actually has the power to do so, these kinds of hate groups will be banned from inciting violence as they have. It is regrettable that they chose to target this man and his coworkers, though, as he was very dedicated to improving the situation in Libya and appeared to be a very bright person indeed. A deep loss for everybody except the extremists on both sides.

All that, and they still consider 9/11 to be the worst day in history.

I'm not a supporter of all American policy, but this thread isn't about that in the least (I won't even start on that fallacy ridden list of deaths one person brought to the table). This thread is about a group of radicals who attacked an embassy which housed no military complex whatsoever, supposedly over an obscure movie released months ago to little fanfare. You can hate US policy all you like, but is it a habit of yours to mock the death of innocent, unarmed people? Or am I expecting too much from adolescents who spend the entirety of their days playing videogames while having no knowledge of history or real world politics?

Uh no.. If we're talking about terrorist attacks, which are commonly religion based, then you are speaking about people with radical idea's that are used to disrupt society. Terrorists aren't the enemy of America. Look at the guy in Norway who single handled killed people that were joined to a specific political party and such. That wasn't an attack at America. America does not attack every muslim country. I don't see them attacking Arabia, Marocco, Turky which are other countries with a primary religious orientation on the Islam.

Deploying the US military as a response to something people did to their society is kinda.. reasonable. Afghanistan was invaded due to 9/11. Iraq was invaded due to the dictator Saddam Hussein. They don't take over countries and just keep them, they actually give the people a democratic life, which is seen fair for everyone.

The attack on a non military object is just weak, though the attack is a message to America. Again another radical action which is executed to disrupt society. Not all terrorists are muslim. Not every muslim is a terrorist. You brought up muslims though.. don't see the point of doing that either.
