you do know verifying data files takes a year or two to complete?

Poor excuse :P

Takes like some 3 minutes on my old lga775 with a regular HDD (yes, a complete check using hldsut)

I might even confirm that timming when I get home.

EDIT: it took 2 minutes and 47 seconds (and it includes the download time for IW5M-to-Steam files)

That's the time between allowing the application on UAC, until it closed by itself after everything being done.

Even faster thant finding the right files on google.

that's not the steam ui

also what would be the alternative to a 'regular HDD', one of those crazy 10k rpm things?

Nah, not a SAS. Those are also outdated. I meant an SSD (highly adviceable for x64 bus). I clearly noticed the difference on my server's (2008r2) performance and stability after I replaced the HHD with the SSD

I never tried hldsut on my server... but now I wonder what would be the checking time on that i7 with that SSD... (much faster than searching the web for IWDs) :P

and how are 10k RPM drives not available for a standard SATA interface?

a) 'x64 bus', waaat

B) oh, you mean flash memory, with its highly instant failure pattern? no thanks.

They are. SAS and Sata share the same physical interface. Only the drivers change. And it can go up to 15k RPM

B) oh, you mean flash memory, with its highly instant failure pattern? no thanks.

I ment SSD only, not caching. An SSD for the operating system and applications, and 2 mirrored HDDs for storage seem like a wise choice for nowadays hardware/software demands.

um, no, SAS drives don't work on a SATA interface, although the reverse is true

still has the nice failure pattern on the flash drive
