If you are willing to sacrifice a lot of resolution it will run all except for crysis 2 and some extremely demanding games (can't think of any other right now )

Crysis 2 runs on my 2004 single core /w 1 gig ddr2 ram and 1 gig vram.

no shit

Didn't know that . I only have two rigs one is a 2.2 dual core and a hd2350 and the other is a i5 2500k overclocked with a ati 7950 so i don't have a good benchmark of a medium tier pc .

EDIT: and by run i mean with at the least a good steady 50 fps

I could also swap out the processor for an AM3 quad core (Phenom II x4 955 Black Edition BOX)

I'm trying to get as much performance as I can out of 100 euros.

The RAM is 9,50 each (buying 2) or 23 for DDR2, CPU is 48 (Triple core, would have to buy cooler for min. 17) or 63 (BOX, 4 cores).

Not much point getting a quad-core CPU with that card unless you plan on upgrading; balance is key here.

Anyway, you should be able to play pretty much any game at very low resolution and graphics settings, yes.

Yeah I do plan on upgrading my GPU but only after upgrading my CPU and other things.

And I don't care if I have to use Low settings, I wanna keep 1600x900.

um, how are quadcores related to the GPU in any case?

I've never had resolution matter a thing except in BF3.

um, bottlenecking? Going on the general assumption that the quad-cores would be quicker if you stick to one maker, which the OP is.

Resolution makes a huge difference, especially on low-end systems.

and how do extra cores only make sense in games? even more so, lots of games depend on the CPU core count primarily.

well it never did on any of mine including my low-end ones
