Hi guys.. I'm playing with a dedicated server for the first time, and I have some questions, I hope you can help me with:

 

1. Can I run a dedi from my iw5m client installation folder (meaning can I run my client and my server from the same files and folders on the same time)?

 

2. What are the system requirements for running a server? I have a semi old PC with a 1,73GHZ dual core CPU, 2GB ram and a lousy 256 MB ATI GPU. Will it be better, if I run my server from that PC and connect with my client from my main PC (2,0GHZ i7, 8GB ram, 1GB NVIDIA gpu), or should I just run both server and client from that?

 

3. Which connection do I need? Will a normal broadband be OK, or do I need something better? I'm thinking it will mostly be for "lan" gaming (which is not lan I know, but you know what I mean).

Although you can host a server and play the game from the same installation, it's adviceable to run the server on a machine that's not running the client. So, that old computer will probably handle a better server than by hosting it on the computer that you use to play.

As for connections speeds... to host it online, you should have the best possible connection. We can't tell you a minimum, since there are other important variables besides download and upload speeds (like latency/aka ping)

If you want to have a really good sever,its highly advisable to rent one from a gsp which hosts their servers from a Data Center..

If you will host from home the players comes from out of your country will have a worst ping.

Well, I managed to set it up, and actually I got a great ping at some points.. As low as 39... The server was very unstable though, and sometimes the ping rose to around 900.. I blame it on the bad hardware though, and I will try again, when I get a hold of a better PC...

Your hosting so its kind of obvious you will get good ping..
