Organizing competitions for a LAN-party?

Featured Replies

So a couple of my friends are planning to host a local-wide LAN-party (50 people is probably the amount of slots they have), and I signed up to be an organizer, you know, I help organizing and everything (and get some privileges, of course). But what is a LAN-party without competitions?

As an organizer I can suggest competitions there, but the problem is, that me, nor probably many people there have any idea how to properly organize and host them.

So some questions to you guys, if there would be a CSS comp, what type should it be?

2v2 ladder? 1v1? 5 p teams? something that would go swiftly and be fun should do it

also hould you enforce EAC on competitors? also, how do you make it so that the game actually starts when everyones in the match?

also, im thinking about a minecraft challenge/survival map competition, the walls seems like a good pick for a comp, anyone care to suggest more?

If you're doing CS:S I would say make 3v3s or 5v5s. I don't know how to go with anti cheats, but I would say, if you expect someone cheats you could use EAC, UAC or zBlock, maybe even the detocs add on. I woudn't do a minecraft competition, as it's not a very competetive game and has no anti cheat stuff, but if you wan't to do it, off course you can.

Ty for the CSS stuff, have to remember that, it seems that there is someone who has done CS comps involved in the organizing so that wont be that much a problem.

Minecraft comps, well yeah it isn't that competitive but challenge maps are fun when properly organized and they dont necessarily need to have any prize, just for fun.

You are wrong about anticheat in MC, Bukkit blocks nearly all of the ridiculous hacks (fly/speed/spider/nofall quickmine that sorta gamechanging stuff), but it doesn't do much for x-ray, but theres a plugin for that.
