I upgraded to Windows 8, and now I cannot start IW4M. It also just downloaded an update.

I can upload the dump file, but I'm not sure if it contains any personal information.

Try deleting "m2demo" folder and caches.xml before you launch the game next time.

That may be caused by either some unsupported/broken script or some dll messing up (but we'll try the scripts first)

If you used IW4M installer, then "m2demo" folder and caches.xml will be located at %localappdata%\IW4M\

Same/similar error after doing this. I think NTA is taking a look at the dump, and it seems to be borked somehow.

Something about a binary not being found, when it actually exists.

seems to be crashing within Microsoft code or code called by such; last stack frame is in ntdll.dll being called from within Direct3DCreate9Impl - requested matching ntdll.dll

okay, culprit found - only 'weird' DLL being loaded was (an out-of-date version of?) MSI Afterburner. unloading this caused the game to successfully launch.

^ yup, solved on IRC. Went out and couldn't update the thread.
