On a serious note, immigration, if well handled, i.e. limited in sensible numbers, and then allowed to integrate well into society, through education and other well-planned means, can't be that bad, especially with countries like Japan - which as an ever growing populace of oldies.

I sense The typical flashbackare over here. Op, I know what you're talking about and it surely isn't a nice situation. I haven't lived outside of Stockholm, but if you have the chance take my advice and choose a hard working school with motivated students. It means piles of homework, but students with great manners.
