I have read and tried several of the posts about problems with the update. I have uninstalled and reinstalled twice now. I did a system restore and tried again...I can get into the menu, but as soon as I join a server, the game crashes....the problem is that the screens go black as well as the error message, so I can't see what the error is to correct the problem!!!

 

Any suggestions?? Should I just delete everything and start with a complete reinstall and then update again?

No. Wait until we get an update that will get rid of this error. It seems the fatal error replaces the Steam error from aIW here...

No, but his point remains. Everyone, including me, is getting that f*cking error. Not that it's easy to debug, it's a super duper generic error. If it were me, I'd use ollydbg, but don't teach your grandmother to suck eggs xD

That is correct NT...the error code and the other screens are all blacked out. Really sucks trying to fix an error that you can't identify!!! Grr.

 

I'll hang in there for a few, but I still don't understand why some people updated just fine and are playing....still think I did something stupid...PEBKAC don't you know.

UPDATE: I went ahead and created a new folder and reinstalled everything, then the update. I was playing just fine, one whole map and then boom...black screen again...with a bit of digging, a friend asked about the downloadable content. Ah, ha...I had purchased not only the game but the extra content, but somehow, the update deleted it??? Not sure, but anyway, I copied my file from steam and voila! The game is running smoothly!

 

I'm still sure it was a user error issue, just don't know exactly what I did to lose the DLC. But that seemed to fix it all. Hope that this helps anyone else with this issue.
