Out of curiousity, why would this be necessary? The reason AlterIW got the cease and desist is because they offered all the necessary files to play MW2 (Infinity Ward didn't see it as a mod, but their own game on a different server being played for free). It wasn't like AlterOps, AlterMW3 or TeknoMW3 whereas you needed a copy of the original game.

 

I'll be honest, I did in fact torrent the games because of Alter (MW3, MW2, Black Ops), but that doesn't concern the creator(s) of this mod (or AlterIW). I torrent things because I am quite young, and can't pay for things online myself, and I'm not in a good situation to simply ask for it, so I resort to torrenting.

 

Perhaps if some extra money was worked up I could get Black Ops, but that's the main one I am content on getting. Depending on what type of progress is made here may determine if I buy MW2.

Sorry but this sounds nothing like a question about steam verification as much as it does a complaint. And the reason aIW was shutdown wasn't neccesarilly for the torrents, it was because activation had said that it was because we continued working on Black Ops and MW3 , and their reason was "BlackOPS and MW3 already have fully functional dedicated servers". I know what your talking about for the torrenting, but I that was the problem, torrents would have been history by now. I believe this topic should be renamed, and then moved to another forum section...

There's a difference between things vital to a person and things that are not. Although, you did state a good point.

Hey OP, whatsup. It DOES concern them whether you're yarr-ing their games or not - the gaming industry is 99% about the $$$ now. Any loss will not be kindly taken to. Whether the means to get money are to make better games or send CnDs to those who make better games, they will choose the cheaper, simpler ones. Face it.

Not a crappy situation, but moreover an inconvenient one (also, please note that life has priorities, but I understand that way you feel). I could ask and no-one would think I am crazy but simply deny because of what is happening. Also, piracy isn't theft, it's piracy. Theft removes the original product, piracy makes an illegitimate copy.

 

I'm not complaining, because I know pirating content has it's downs (and now that I think about it, asking this probably wasn't a necessary being that you want your project to prosper and not be K.I.A like Alter). Considering the direction this mod goes in, purchasing MW2 could be a good idea.

 

But the main thing I want to know is was this verification business because of the C&D, or did you intend to have this in Alter but couldn't?
