Certain players are unable to connect to my server

Hi,

I recently rented a dedicated server (IP is 37.59.48.199:28971). It's running on a windows root and is up to date. While playing I keep noticing many players, who try to connect (they show up in the scoreboard with the green symbol) either time out or leave the game immediatly (it doesn't even say 'player connected' in the lower left corner, but instead 'player left the game', before the guy had even joined). This seems to happen to at least a third of the players who try to join.

Now neither my friends nor me are having trouble joining the server, but we're all using 4D1. Is this maybe an alterRev problem?

Thanks in advance

They might be using the aRev client and being shown as legacy clients? o.o

I have no idea, this is a strange issue

I assume your server is using r104 of 4D1's dedi-tool

So I suggest you make all your friends update (or move to 4D1 if not done so already) and for you to update your server

Well, all of my friends can join the server (it's 4d1) and, as i wrote above, the problem only occurs if I load my mod. I'm using the update tool to keep the server up to date. Any other ideas? :S

//edit: nvm, seems to have nothing to do with the mod :D

So what error are people getting while joining your server??

I don't know, as none of my friends have trouble joining, all I see is a ton of people leaving the game the second they joined.

Are you putting your mod in m2demo? aRev clients seem to be unable to join in that case.

I tried putting the iwd in m2demo, extracting it into m2demo and loading it via +set fs_game ...

Always the same problem though :/

As much as I despise saying so, but you could make a copy of your MW2 folder and install the ('old') alterRevolution client and try connecting to see what error shows up.

Yep, just did that, and the error (with and without mods) is:

Maybe reuploading all dedicated server files could solve the problem? I'll try that tomorrow.

Hmm, you could try getting a zone/alter/patch_alter_mp.ff from aRev and putting it in there, but first check if sv_pure is 0.

There is none in my alterrev folder unfortunately. But wouldn't that result in 4D1 players not being able to connect anyway?

Your game installation is broken. I do not have any problem joining your server with old legacy client, so called arev.

Mh, that's weird, I was able to join other servers, not all of them though. I guess I'll try to reinstall everything.

Thanks for the help anyway :)

My server is having the same problem. I might have fixed it by deleting ALL iwd's in \m2demo, but I can't be asked to see if it actually worked.

I only put .iwds in main, just my personal preference. Especially now that m2demo is combined with raw.

I was talking about raw.iwd, old m2demo files and any mode files. I found out I had a crap load of files in mine after I downloaded the files for a server from some random torrent, as I could be asked to upload 7gb

I have the same issue with my server. Running a vanilla 3.0-103 server. Clients connect and I see them in the tab menu, but after they load the map we see a "[playername] has left the game" message.

Are aRev clients supposed to be able to join 4D1 servers? I see that our servers are heartbeating to the aRev master, but wouldn't that just bring unpure clients?

Just updated to 3.0-104, will see if the issue persists.

Issue still exists in 3.0-104.

It seems that an update along the way, whether on the aRev side or 4D1, has caused a good amount of players to "leave the game" once joining - legacy clients. I'll try to do an update just in case to see if that's the issue.

Опубликовано:
alterRev have released "updated" clients which might be broken in several ways.

If are people using their first client (based on good old alterIW) or latest 4D1 there should not be any issue with joining your server.

Thanks for the news.

I have an irrelevant question though - an update was released for 4D1 a few days ago, but SVN didn't increment and I can't seem to get my hands on the source. I'm not sure if it was an anti-cheat update (then I would understand why it wasn't released), but I modify Auth.cpp so that I can use clan tags and then re-distribute the DLL to my clan. Any idea?

Thanks in advance!
