Now that I've watched episode 11, I'm going to reply again.

 

It wasn't a filler, (spoiler that could possibly spoil one of the next episodes)

in the VN you get to choose which person you take the test with, it also seems that they've mixed the "mysterious creature" part and the courage test. I haven't played the Saigusa + Anego combination yet, but it could be like that in the VN as well, either way, in the VN it's a pain to defeat the creature and it's not being mentioned that the bird is kyousuke's 'friend'. In the VN, Nishizono is a partner choice for the test if I recall correctly as well.

I played a few and its kind of cool at the start but then you realize its like reading a book (I love books btw, e-books are nor my cup of tea though) and you don't really do anything but read and hit enter all the time unless a little option pops up after like 9000 dialogues by the girl/guy/trap.
