Hello guys, my apologies for if i failed to find an existing thread for my problem here, but i hope you can forgive me for it ;D

So basically my game crashes everytime i leave a server, and i don't know why. i have tried reinstalling mw2 through steam and reinstalling IW4M, but the bug is still there. Does anybody know how to fix this?

 

i also got another question (this question could be answered by myself if i just tried things out, but i'm lazy, and the servers are offline right now )

Strolling through this forum i found out it's possible to play the DLC maps, and play on them when using the IW4M mod, but i found 2 different things, and i'm not sure which 'path to follow'

One of these ''paths'' was in NTAuthority's frequently asked questions topic, which says the following:

Couldn't load image 'preview_mp_***'.

You are missing the DLC packs/related IWD files for Modern Warfare 2. Update your game on Steam, or download iw_22.iwd and iw_23.iwd and put them in the 'main' subdirectory in your MW2 directory.

Then there's Toolbox's topic regarding DLC maps:

Here is how you download and play custom maps.

First, Download the .ff files from this list ,

HERE

and place them in your zone/ALTER folder.

 

Secondly, Run iw4m. To get into the maps, you must type these commands in the game console.

 

Gulag = map gulag

Oilrig = map oilrig

Contingency = map contingency

Favela ( You cant play this at the moment ) = map favela

Pripyat = map so_ghillies

Burgertown = map invasion

Credits = map iw4_credits

now, it seemed obvious to me that toolbox's topic is the one i need, until i read the part about needing console commands to enter the maps, which then got me wondering wether i just switch to them when a server switches to these maps, or can i only play them by using console commands?

also, as stated in Toolbox's thread, i should save them to my zone/ALTER folder. but this ALTER folder doesn't exist in my zone folder, does that mean i have to create it myself? or is it supposed to be there already?

 

And i got yet another question

Some time ago i saw a steam friend online, playing ''IW4M Modern Warfare 2'' (or something along those lines), and it wasn't stated to be a ''non-steam game''. so i'm wondering how i can add the IW4M mod to steam, without having it appear to be a non-steam game (mainly so my friends can see which kind of mw2 i'm playing, Regular or IW4M).

 

My apologies for any dumb questions i have posed above, but i can't really help but have to pose those questions to you xD

Search for the AIW DLC Repo on google and download it.

Also that post by toolbox only refers to DLC3 or Ported SP Maps which come stock with the steam mw2 so you don't need to worry about it.

And for the steam shortcut just add it as a non-steam game and that's all you can do.

By the way, where do i put the files once i got them?

When you will download the DLCs every file will be in a folder, you need to put them into the same folders as they were before. You will se what I mean when you download them.

but my first, and biggest problem isn't solved yet. is anybody familliar with crashing games upon leaving any random server?

first through the menu, then it crashed, then i discovered it was possible through the console, but /disconnect also made it crash. but ever since the servers were offline/i put in the DLC maps, it doesn't crash anymore!

after making my previous post, i tried to launch iw4m again, but every time i tried it gave me a message about my directx having encountered an unrecoverable error. i rebooted my computer, could start the game again and now i can't leave servers anymore without iw4m crashing T_T

Try this

In console, type

r_fullscreen 0;vid_restart

It won't be fullscreen anymore, and usually fixes DirectX issues.
