The whole genre is generic.

You shoot people.Or aliens like in Aliens vs Predator.But most of the time I'm an Alien, so i don't shoot people.That's why I like the genre.Well that and the blood.

World War 2 and Modern Military Shooters (after WW2) are basically uninspired things. They don't have any sort of freedom, the stroy has to be believable and all other things. They emphasize some sort of reality which is as of 2012 unattainable by computer games. Some can compensate with an immersion factor and this makes them good games, but that's about it.
