I wish to know if my pc is bottlenecking!

I upgraded my 9500 GT a few days ago to a GTX 550 TI

I upgraded my Power block to a 500 Watt one from a 350 watt

My other specs are the same tho

so it looks like this :

Video : Nvidia GTX 550 TI

CPU : Intel Dual core 2.5 GHz

Ram : 4 GB ddr2

HDD : Samsung 500 gb 2x 7200 rpm

I wish to know if my CPU is bottlenecking my video card.

After like 3 to 5 hours after i start my PC my FPS suddenly drops in any game from lets say 60 to like 10 ...?

I wish to know if its cuz of bottlenecking or the problem is somewhere else.

I'm not still sure if its that cuz whats the logic it takes like 5 hours to start droping and after a brief restart its fine for another 3 to 5 hours...???

"Intel Dual Core" doesn't say anything about your CPU (except for the amount of cores). It could be a midrange CPU or a crappy Celeron dualcore, but considering the rest of your setup it's pretty obvious that your CPU is the bottleneck.

I knew it! Thanks for the fast reply idk what i should aim for maybe a a core i5?

Depends on how much money you want to spend, as you'd most certainly need a new mainboard as well. But yeah, a midrange Core i5 would be a good choice IMO.

The cpu is bottlenecking the video card no doubt about it but the fps drops probably aren't because of that .

Try running a stress test on the pc and you will probably discover it's overheating .

Even tough you should still update your cpu , an i5 2500 would be the best bang for your buck .

a new i5 would be fine, i guess

but with i7 you would be sure nothing is bottlenecking your pc

Please, do get educated before you post nonsense.

i5 will be more than enough for your graphics card, let alone gaming on any graphics card.

Looks like your CPU is overheating, it starts throttling itself when it gets too hot. Clean all the dust and stuff, try re-applying thermal paste and maybe even change the heatsink.

Your CPU shouldn't be that much of a bottleneck, it is however somewhat bottlenecking your graphics card. (Also depends on the game).

This.

The i7 2600k performs exact the same as the i5 2500k and even worse in some cases.

And check your temperatures. Use Realtemp for the temperatures of your CPU (most CPUs start throttling at 95C) and GPU-z for the temperatures of your graphics card (should start throttling somewhere around 100C).

guys you are telling someone to buy an i7 who saved a half year for a video card.... are you sane?

cpu upgrade+mobo upgrade isn't that cheap....

do what yuki said

if you see the temperatures going high try to clean the fans and the cooling aluminium(don't know the word)

if the temperatures are still high reapply cooling paste (you can buy it in any IT shop for about 2 dollars)

if the problem still exists then change the CPU/GPU cooler maybe something from cooler master

The temps are fine thanks for the feedback!

My CPU is just to outdated compared to my video card i got to biefy of a card...

With my pafethic wage it will take like 5 or 6 months to get money i still have some left overs after buying the new Power block and the video card so yeah,...

Games run fine I played battlefield 3 last night on ultra with about 60 to 70 fps and sometimes it dropped to 40. I just need to reboot my pc after like 4 or 5 hours of play cuz at that point my fps starts to drop to 10... but after the reboot it works fine... thats why i wanted to know if its bottlenecking cuz i was not sure! But thinking logically it is the CPU ... its nothing compared to the quad cores and stuff these days...

PS where can i get a BF3 key really cheap i really want to play it on multiplayer :D

Then the card and memory would bottleneck the i7 ._.

Just go for an i5.

This and he would have to buy new RAM as well, DDR2 RAM is not compatible DDR3 slots and DDR3 RAM is not compatible with DDR2 slots.

Heatsink fins is the word you're looking for.

And changing your cooler isn't really that easy in a laptop.

its a desktop PC and i have taken in account that i have to upgrade my motherboard and buy ram but they are reletavely cheap a core i5 is like 400 bucks (in our money) so its about 200 euro... ddr3 ram is pretty cheap atm

I somehow managed to confuse this thread with viewtopic.php?f=10&t=8672.

You should try reinstalling Windows as well. Maybe after some time a virus scan starts, a defragment or whatever could be scheduled. A CPU bottleneck wouldn't be causing it to go into effect after a couple of hours gameplay.
