Windows doesn't recognize ethernet cable

Hi all,

I recently installed a fresh install of Windows 7 Ultimate and before that I was using an ethernet cable for my connection. After the installation of Windows 7 I noticed that I didn't had internet connection, I tried to fix it but without success. Now I'm using wireless internet which is slow as fuck so I'd like to get a solution from you guys.

Thanks in advance.

First of all, what network card do you even have

I have no clue and how could I check that?

You need to install the correct drivers. Try to check windows update if the drivers are available there. Or try to find it on the internet.

And check if the lights on the card are on.

Windows is fully updated and windows nor me could find any drivers for this cable... but before I re-installed windows on my PC I also didn't need any drivers.

Look for the hardware ID and google it. Most of the times that worked for me, and if it doesn't, find a cracked version of DriverGenius, it's very handy if you just installed Windows and don't want to waste time on Googling drivers

Believe me, this cable doesn't need any drivers. It worked fine before I installed windows 7.

._.

Now stop saying "this cable worked before without drivers". IT'S JUST A CABLE, OF COURSE IT WORKED.

Go search the drivers for the network card if you really want to use your "cable", because any cable won't work unless it got something that can send a signal through it, aka, the network card.

And use Dutchies advice, please.

If you want more basic knowledge of LAN cables and why they're different, please tell, i would LOVE to explain the difference between Cat 5, 5e, 6 and 6a and why there's no reason to buy short and expensive cables. I'm just going to say that right now. Find the cheapest for the length and speed you want (speed depends on whether it's a Cat 5, 5e, 6 or 6a cable), check that it's working and if it does, it's YOUR problem if it breaks. If it doesn't work, just send it back.

but... these cat7 cables are 10gbit and can theoretically carry 100gbit, not as if my I/O subsystem will ever be able to handle that, but I want to send random data across my PCs at awesome speeds!

i can agree that big numbers = better!

Only whether it is crossed or straight cable i.e. Connection or No-connection.

more recent network 'cards' (actually PHYs, I'd guess; unless this is determined in the MII) don't care about the cable's Rx/Tx pairs
