The "Steam Box" is nothing more than a HTPC designed for the Steam client, it still is a PC and will run any game on Steam, according to Gabe's words only the Steam Box's hardware will be "controlled", not the software, in other words, there will be no "Steam Box" exclusives as it will be a PC. Hopefully and I'm also 100% certain that this will not create a new games market, but will make the PC market more rich and diverse, after all this is the strong side of PC gaming, you morons can't even think.

Valve is trying to bring the best of two worlds and I hope that they succeed.

It's been known for quite a long time that Steam is making their own PC to compete with consoles. But I doubt it changes much, if I wanted to play with a controller, I'd just buy a console, since I don't want to, I'm more than happy at having everything on my desk. I do have 1 PC connected to TV, and it's good only for watching movies, I rarely play games on it (well, it is too weak to play most modern games, but it can still run some) because despite having 60" screen, it's no where near of gaming on a nornal desktop machine.

Everything about this will depend on what it will contain. As it's going to be a PC, just with a lightweight OS like a console, it will most likely be able to use higher resolutions at higher framerates without even costing more than an xbox 360. People would buy this to be able to only play PC games, with some additional features, without using a lot of money. Obviously, people who want to play PC games properly gets a proper PC with a proper OS, because then you're not as limited as you would be to this. But maybe they will create this with the ability to change components, since it's technically a PC and is most likely going to be a small form desktop. Still it's very limited and if it will cost more than, lets say 200ВЈ, I wouldn't see any reason to buy it, unless it got a high performance. They're targeting lazy people and people with absolutely no knowledge of PCs.
