I keep getting this error after following the instructions for the downloading of the free maps on the common errors/fixes/solutions thread #37 with the hlupdate tool maybe someone can make sense of it?

nope! tried that several times but all it did was tell me it detected an incompatible program...

 

additionally, i tried updating the .net framework, and someone even suggested running it manually from a .BAT file on nother forum or thread, don't remember which now, and i tried, but it just told me it coulldn't write the file , and that the hard drive is probably full...

run LaunchIW5M.exe as a administrator, if that does not work, rename "iw5m.dat" to "iw5m.exe" and run iw5m.exe maybe that could work. its a worth a try

Update: now i'm getting the patch_mp.ff is different from the server message, but the fix in the common errors thread is not working... any idea how to update iw5 so it get's the server names right again?

 

P.S. I used your second method to fix the first problem, anyone know how to fix the second?

CLR20r3 means that your .net Framework 3.5 is having problems. I don't know how to fix that on windows 7, since on windows 7, .net Framework 3.5 is part of the operating system.

ok, i gathered that, which is why we did the workaround turning iw5m.dat into an .exe, the new problem is in that now i have no means of downloading a new cache.xml to play on the multiplayer maps

edit: i even downloaded a microsoft tool to correct .net framework issues but to no avail, i'm told that the only other solution is to re install windows 7, and i'm not sure i want to try/risk that over a game's multiplayer functionality

Go to Programs in the control panel and then "Turn Windows features on and off".

You will see .Net Framework 3.5, make sure that box is ticked..

well there was .net framework 3.5.1 and it was checked and still nothing in that regard...

 

What would happen if i turned .net framework 3.5 off?
