Well, hello guys, I got a problem with my game, whenever I try to set all setting to Extra, my game crashes.

Even tho I got GTX 550 Ti that runs most of the games at full setting.

I got this problem with Mw2 and Mw3 only.

What OS are you running it on?

Windows 7 32-bit, I've unlocked my RAM, I can use all of my RAM (8GB)

I didn't edit anything. I am using AlterIW Client. Old, I know

Bumping it, I need to get help since I want to record something.

First try with Texture Quality Automatic.

 

Other settings are:

r_vsync 0 or 1; Vertical Sync

r_dof_enable 0 or 1; Depth of Field

r_specular 0 or 1; Specular Map

r_glow_allowed 0 or 1; Glow allowed or not, you cant see effect in mw2 a lot, visible a lot in cod4's vacant and bloc maps... (glowing light when looking outside when inside some building)

sm_enable 0 or 1; Shadows on or off

r_zfeather 0 or 1; Particle Smoothing / Soften smoke edges

r_aaSamples X; X is any integer from 1 to positive ints. Multiplier of anti-aliasing feature. 4x 2x 16x whatever you want

r_aaAlpha 0, 1 or 2; Anti aliasing method, 0 off, 1 default (multisample), 2 supersample

ragdoll_enable 0 or 1; obviously ragdoll

fx_marks 0 or 1; Bullet impact signs on walls objects etc

r_drawsun 0 or 1; Draw Sun? or not. Also enables some lightning effects

r_detail 0 or 1; enables and disables 'camos' for weapons. Also some little things on maps

r_texfileranisomax Y; Y is any integer from 1 to positive numbers. Defines maximum value of 'anisotropy'. This setting is visible in cod4

r_texfileranisomin Z; same as above, if bigger or equal to anisomax, it will overwrite and use this var.

r_smc_enable 0 or 1; game says static model cache enable or not. I have no idea what is doing.

cg_brass 0 or 1; enable ejecting brass (bullet caves) from weapon

r_fastskin 0 or 1; fast skinning for models I have no idea about this -.-

r_dlightlimit 0 or bigger; 0 is off, any value for dynamic lights on maps. Such as weapon fire flashes visible on walls. This setting removed in menus but exist in cod4

r_mode UxT; specifies resolution for game. also you can use numbers listed in console, r_mode 1024x768 or something.

r_custommode UxT; same as above but you can use custom resolution, like 1270x700 or something

r_aspectratio: 0 1 2 or 3; 0=auto, 1=4:3, 2=16:10, 3= 16=9

r_fullscreen 0 or 1; fullscreen or not

r_noborder 0 or 1; borderless (no titlebar, no close button etc)

vid_xpos any integer; Window position on X, bigger value moves window to right

vid_ypos; same as above, bigger value moves window to down/below

 

after all do vid_restart

 

you can edit picmip (texture quality) from config

r_picmip_manual; 0 or 1; defines manual config or automatic. 1 for manual

r_picmip, r_picmip_bump, r_picmip_water, r_picmip_spec ; all these values from 0 to 3; 0 extra, 3 low.

texture res, normal map res, water res, spec res, (res=quality)

You need to do a clean up on your main folder. Delete iw_25, iw_29 and iw_31 in main folder. Delete all config files on players folder (for a fresh start of IW4M). Hope this helps.

then run game

close game and open config_m2.cfg in players folder with notepad or wordpad

 

find the settings i gave above, change them 1 by 1 to you want. then find out which setting make game crash.

so dont revert setting causing game crash and dont touch it. play with others

This doesn't make sense.. Please provide the error of the crash.

i didnt said anything about sc_enable, there is r_smc_enable and sm_enable. / also 1 dvar doesnt exist doesnt make game crash...

 

and if you get black screen or c0000005 error, there is nothing to do with it.

 

i think he get this error in one of these settings

r_dof_enable (because of r_floatz 0, have to be 1 for depth of field)

r_vsync (somewhat gfx card doesnt support vertical sync or it forced to turned off)

r_zfeather (same as dof, r_floatz have to be enabled for this setting)

r_mode (he chooses monitor or gfx card or system config doesnt support that resolution)

r_aasamples (he chooses too big number for antialiasing and cpu/gpu doesnt handle it)

 

after all, if error continue, i will give some special files to him. :mrgreen:

 

edit: ew, try to delete settings_x.zip.iw4 files from players too...
