4GB was the gaming standard back when I bought my desktop IIRC, that's 7 years ago..

Still rockin with 4gb ram.

Dude my 5 and a half year old pc has 3 gb and that was not the standard at the time already (it was 4 gb) .

My gaming rig is currently broken (another month until i can afford another power supply) but it has 24 gb (i know it's overkill but i got the ram for free so i just used it ).

A friend of mine ordered a 24 gb of ram and he got 48 , he gave me the extra .

have 8GB DDR3 divided on 2x2GB and 4x1GB because Acer apparently likes to use all the RAM slots and I can only have 2GB max per slot for some obscure reason. SO 12GB MAX AND I HAVE TO GET 4X2GB. not worth it.

inb4 new mobo, CPU, RAM and biiiiiiiiiig tower, for 600€. THEN MY PC IS CHEAPER THAN WHAT I BOUGHT IT FOR... wait what.

STANDARD!!! I dd not say "everyone has 8-16GB these days", it's just a standard, meaning most new PC configurations have that amount of RAM, people are upgrading to that much most often, and that's what most new applications use now. MOST, not ALL.

I"d say the standard is 4-8GB not 8-16 GB

You'll rarely find a pre-built mainstream rig with less than 8GB, unless it's really low budget (but even those can have 8GB, because RAM is very cheap now).

 

Pre-built gaming rigs often have 12 or even 16GB.

 

And enthusiast that build their own PCs also put 8-16GBs now.

 

I'm not talking about old PCs here, I'm talking about the standard when you're buying/upgrading a PC at this time, and little people put 4GB in their rigs ATM, with 8GB being only few € more.
