Aiming/mousetracking issues since new update

Featured Replies

Hi,

I'm having a problem with poor mouse performance since the new update (by that I mean recently, I don't know how many small updates went since the Nuketown one). It's very similar to the issues I have with MW3 (and possibly BO1, though I had overall poor performance, not just the mouse) ; it has stutters/lag at times, it sometimes does a smaller movement than I intended, etc ... It's difficult to describe to someone who hasn't experienced it (and I don't how many have) but it's definitely there.

I saw a recent thread about framerate drops and its "-d3d9" shortcut parameter solution, and thought it might apply to me (even though my framerate is still locked at 125) because it mentions d3d9ex was used in TF2, and TF2 runs poorly on my PC. So I added -d3d9 in the target box of my shortcut but it seems to have little to no effect for me. Which saddens me because that was my main and only guess as to what was the cause of this.

Anyone experiencing this as well or knowing what's going on and how to fix it ?

Thanks.

System specification, now!

AMD Phenom II X4 955 Black Edition

Sapphire Radeon HD 6850

Gigabyte GA-870A-UD3

8Go (2x4Go) PC12800 RAM

Power supply of 500W

Windows 7 64bits

Mouse is a Logitech G500 set at a rate of 250 with 3900 dpi (OS drivers for speed and acceleration, and no acceleration in windows).

TF2 runs poorly on this PC? Imho your PC should be able to run TF2 on max. video settings.

I know, but it doesn't. I tried it shortly after it went F2P if I'm not mistaken, didn't try it again after that to check if it got better. I don't remember if I checked my framerate when I tried it, but it felt awful.

It's what hinted me at that d3d9 solution I just read (which I didn't know at the time).

For MW2.

I can't be 100% sure because I just went through a freezing rain and I don't have full control of my hands just yet (lol), but it seems to happen in places where I would have framedrops if I was subject to them. On the roofs of favela for example. But my framerate stays at 125. It feels like framedrops though sometimes.

I'll check later. I'll also try to lower my mouse polling rate to 125.

Setting my polling rate at 125 doesn't help, in fact it was quite worse (but that may have been unrelated). Going 500 doesn't change anything.

Setting the process priority to below normal doesn't help either.

Reinstall windows or do virus scan.

There must be something weird in your pc.

You should be able to play IW4M easily with extra settings without any lag.

(I have Athlon 64 x2 + HD4870 and I can run the game on extra with DoF, shadows and specular disabled)

You already have vsync set to off, i guess?

Experiment with

/r_gpuSync "aggressive" //improves mouse response, but gives FPS hit (0=off, 1=adaptive, 2=aggressive)

clientdvar, it might help.

BTW: that dvar doesn't seem to 'stick' if it's used it in config_m2.cfg. So you'd have to create an autoexec.cfg and place it in IW4M/main folder, in case you don't want to set the dvar manually through the clients console everytime you start the game.

The autoexec.cfg should look like this:

seta r_gpuSync "aggressive"

@banz, doesn't change anything. And yes, vsync is off.

Maybe it actually is framerate drops. I've seen it dropping a couple of times. Maybe it's too fast for me to notice the rest of the time.

Could be a mix of many things. I'll let it go until I get around to reinstalling my OS or until a few 4D1 updates go by. I probably won't be playing for a couple of days, so I don't want to keep you guessing for nothing.

Thanks anyways.

same problem. my FPS are cut in half, the mouse jumps all over, it's impossible to aim. this game was running great before the update, ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGES TO MY SYSTEM. this update blows. un-fucking-playable. yes, i tried -dxd9 , even in-game "FPS booster" helps a little, but still unplayable compared to before the update.

i have a shitty system, but this game ran just fine before. i hope they get on this and reverse whatever they did, BC this game is fucking useless to me now.

disable ASPM ( active state power management ) very effective against sudden animation fps drops/fps spikes/frame locks. its effect all moves mouse included.

specialy important for nvidia optimus or optimus like ati variant ( with intel hd graphics ). everyone search in google "disable ASPM win7 or win8 or xp. i cant give link here.

Just updating this thread to note that aiming is still as clunky as before. Rev 122 did not fix my issue. I do understand it might be on my end if no one else is complaining anymore, though.
