The four new maps: burgertown, gulag, oilrig and pripyat don't work for me. I can't join any server running them - the game just hangs. I can't load them from the command console either. I have the relevant fastfiles in my zone\english folder but these maps never load. What could be wrong?

Should ALSO be in your zone/alter folder.

Nope, that didn't work. I noticed just now though that I am getting an error message: "failed to create 2D texture" or something like that. I just didn't see it before because the game window covers it.

Its definitely your Video card then... It might also be incompatibility with the maps... Since they are ported, and weren't originally meant to be ran in MP.

Funny thing though, I have aRev's M2 and these maps load without doing this! The reason I don't use that is because I have "low ping server only" error on most servers even though my ping is good. Weird!

Yes I am, but I removed the iw_25.iwd and raw.iwd like it said I should, and a couple of other unneccessary .exe and .dll files that alterIW client used.

DISCLAIMER: This is purely theoretical discussion. I am simply discussing the possibility of the game working on the skidrow torrent and no one should download it.

Yeah, I'm using an MP rip that was specifically packed up for use with alterIWnet.

Don't know though if it's worth the bother to download the Skidrow version just to use these four maps because I have a lowish bandwidth and everything else works perfect. Thanks anyway.

 

EDIT: Just found out I can load these maps with texture settings set on High but not on Extra. Automatic setting seems to choose Extra by default for me and that's why I couldn't load them earlier. Thats good enough for me though.

Well it is not just the 4 maps. The old alterIWnet version still has the old menu layout and everything. In the new one, the menu is better suited for PC with just servers and no matchmaking, a mod menu to load mods so you won't need to use the console to load them and no dead menus that crash the client. But still, I guess you can split the download over a few months?

Yes, that's the version I have - the new one with the new menu and all. I just pasted in the new IW4M files and updater on top of the old alterIWnet client and deleted a few others that weren't needed. It all works perfectly except for that issue with the new maps.

Well, I've solved the problem with three of them but oilrig still doesn't load. Turns out it gives a different error to the one the other maps gave. This one gives "DirextX has encountered a problem" or something like that.

I've got 3GB of regular RAM and 1GB of video card RAM, so i'd say that's not the problem. :?
