(TL:DR... Skip to what I really wanted to know)

From aIW to today:

Hi. I am Cheezeaza,

Ever since the first Modern Warfare came out, my friends and I would be online whenever we could. We dreamed about playing in class, but it wasn't until I saw this: South Park that I was determined to find a way to do just that.

A google search for MW2 Lan got me this: AlterIWnet *Click* It was exactly what we could of wanted and more. It was great with its portable, non-steam version of MW2 and an open source master server.

Things seemed to keep getting better with alterOps (not the spam wave :P) and then alterMW3, so I was online almost everyday until my surgery. The weeks after my surgery were too painful to even think about COD, so I slept most of the time. After the burning feeling when you breathe passed, I decided to play some aIW to pass the time. *click*

"Hello, dear user. As the clock passed 2012-03-13, alterIWnet might not be alive anymore..."

I was shocked but I knew this would happen one day. I thought of all the work lost... All the great things accomplished since the last public commit in 2009.

Luckily I had a flash drive with a old version that worked with the public IWnetServer... No anticheat, no problem. It was a lan right? I had my lan working...

I saw a group trying to continue what aIW left. I wanted to help the people who were without a working lan or a way to play, so I signed up with aRev eventually become a developer for them.

InterLabs started up and I loved to try it out until I was banned almost immediately from the website and the IRC channel.

Anyway, what I really wanted to know:

I don't understand why we (aRev, FourDeltaOne, InterLabs) all have to be complete rivals. Why can't we help each other out with their issues? Why do we have to constantly attack (or plan on attacking) each other? With hacking, spreading (of viruses), bruteforcing, DDoSing, or even lying, slandering, or saying things without knowing the facts?

Aren't we are all trying to achieve the same thing?

Please help me understand or let me know how you feel...

Thanks for reading,

Cheezeaza

Hi, and thanks for being civilised.

Understandably, many people are annoyed by plagarism of their work, and the work of others. They feel as if they are being cheated. IMO, if alterRev had stuck to IW4M1, none of this sh*tstorm would have happened. You were just guys, using your own money to run a server. And even if you didn't hold up to every agreement, I, along with most of FourDeltaOne and IL, were fine with that. But M2 and RevOps crossed the line.

Now, I don't want to sound like a pretentious asshole, but what's happening, you brought on yourselves. If you can't stand the heat, stay out of the kitchen.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts... I understand how you feel and I am sorry for anything I might of been a part of... I was getting sick of almost every other post I read saying how I (or the group I am in) am the most unorganized, stupidest, developer or something like that... Well... Thanks again.

No problem. Glad to see someone from over there has the ability to converse like a normal person.

At least one of the aRev developers is not a weird person. Anyway, NTA has said another issue is some of the higher up people in aRev wanting to hold onto their power, preventing any sort of merger.

Well, you've been out when it all started.

As aIW got a C&D notification from Activision, a group of people posted on aIW forum that they were gonna start that "arev" stuff. Among those people, there were 2 that were already under aIW admins eyes for a while. Those people were informed in that very same thread that they were not allowed to use aIW code to start another CoD network.

Of course they ignored. They jumped over aIW's grave and claimed themselves as the saviours of all mankind. All they do is to reverse NTAuthority's work to get some reputation.

As for you, I wouldn't blame you wanting NPserver for offline LAN (I do the same). But the fact is that it's being hosted for online gaming. There was really no need for arev to be running iw4m2, when it's legit creator is running it right here.

In my opinion, arev is just stealing stuff to get some atention. Adding nothing new, just cloning.

^This.

Also, the main reason why many people here are upset about you guys, is, well... you have read it already. Your development team is stealing the hard work someone else (NTA) has worked on. You get all the props, for absolutely nothing. I am happy, though, that you are, as said above, one of the few normal people we can talk to, without having an argument with a 3-year old.

As moving your story might be, taking someone's work is never the right solution. As in this case, if you just waited, you all at aRev could have got a great experience, or maybe even better, since the conflict between aRev and 4D1 is slowing down the process of m2. If YOU would be able to get this into the thick skulls of the rest of your development team to stop them from copying NTA's work, we would all be happy. Arguments to use are all over the forums.

Rant mode on:

There is no point to AlterRevolution anymore. The original creator of the MW2 modification which your WHOLE project is based of has decided to create a new project that is better than yours, and has asked you to shut down. The only reason your project was surviving until recently was because 4D1 was not free. It is now.

Um, not really. None of the aIW staff except for a few useless defectors cooperated with the project, and I strongly oppose the project, and would like it to get shut down as soon as possible. Have already filed DMCA requests at MediaFire, but they don't seem to accept them from individuals. :/

Source: http://cs.rin.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=61135

You have not listened to his requests and carried on. Then RevOps. From what I have been hearing from various sources, NTA gave you the source code on the request you would stop on the IW4M client. Have you complied with his request. No.

Also, another flaw. Your admin, Incubus said you would shut down AlterRev if NT made IW4M free. It is free now, and yet your project lives.

Now you will mention Black Ops, but as I mentioned previously, Black Ops was given to you under the terms you would shut down M2.

Source: viewtopic.php?f=11&t=4149&p=23825

There is also another project you have probably heard off, called Interlabs. This project you have claimed to be retards (Interfags). They do Black Ops, and they released it earlier, and with NTA's full support. Indeed, I have seen him very active in their IRC, and he posts on their forums. Does he do that on AlterRev? No.

RANT MODE OFF

Indeed, I appreciate that you wish for peace between the projects, but that can never happen until AlterRev shuts down, and the admins become less power-hungry.

And things are getting more complicated everytime for people like me. The more the masterservers get complex, the harder it is to keep running stuff on LAN. It moved from an open-source project to almost a secret. Protecting the client from code thieves really doesn't help those who just wanna run a LAN with it.

There was a time when we could tell people how to get a serverlist working on LAN. Then, when aIW was closing, there was a rush of people PMing, asking how to get a serverlist working. They obviously didn't think all at once that they wanted to organize LAN parties. It was really sad to open the inbox and realize the ammount of people that were trying to clone aIW.

Good old times when we could share knowledge... now we have to realize what people want to do with that knowledge first.

I agree with you guys and thanks for replying. I feel that aRev should be used as a backup for when servers are down and for M1 full time if anyone still plays that..

I know exactly how you feel... But At the time when it was thriving, it could of been open source and people wouldn't of switched to some brand new 5 player network... I wish alot of things were open source... Its just a better way to go, but there are malicious people and I understand why the developers keep it closed source. (Don't say that aRev is one of those groups... That has been established many times).

Exactly. But of course the admins won't let that I'm guessing.

But to make that possible, we all three projects need to be in sync... If we can do that, then we can focus on new features and I can start on my Friends system :P

That has been proposed already when alterOps source code was given. But you know better than me what happened then...

I know what you've been doing. I heard some stuff about you before. And by what I've heard and what I see you write here, I wonder why the hell did you engage with arev?

then we can focus on new features and I can start on my Friends system :P

Why don't you cooperate with 4D1 and interlabs? Why don't you make your friends system open-source, so that 4D1 and interlabs can use it? Seems much better to be investing on a developing project than on it's clone...

I already have the authorization and the overlay working... I just need to include an ajax chat and friends list.. I was planning on releasing it on my github and I would gladly cooperate with 4d1 and iL (If I wasnt banned in 2 ways for nothing)...

Well thank you guys for being much friendlier that iL about this... I didn't sleep at all last night, so I'll be back online tomorrow. Again thanks!

I can even see a post from yourself there...

Does arev really want to offer something to players, or do they wanna destroy whoever doesn't give them adds money?

Attacking regular users computers like that is just walking way too low... Shame on arev

Since we're having a nice conversation on this thread, do you care to explain what that page means?
