Well, not really, it isn't something very new, anyway..

 

I was thinking of giving rewards for donations, so I want to discuss the general idea, but also some ideas for rewards with you, here they come; (Don't pay too much attention to the prices, I just came up with them sort of randomly)

 

• First of all, any donation above $1 earns a spot in the Freemium group, along with access to the new forum (find it in General Discussion, you all have access too)
  
• Then for $10 you get access to the Closed-Beta whenever that is released.
  
• $20 will get you access right now, $25 gets you a setup dedicated server (which they host themselves, ofc)
  
• $35 gets you all of the above, plus a t-shirt, featuring something like premium member or w/e
  
• Then finally, a somewhat new idea, and I don't know if it is a good idea.. For $45 people get 1 week/2 weeks/1 month V.I.P membership, which gets them a V.I.P. rank, a special avatar, a V.I.P. t-shirt, access to IW5M and access to the staff forums and irc (view-only).

 

Let me know what you think, especially about the last one

I don't find it that of a bad idea. No ideas whatsoever, I'll update this post if I come with some.

1. Isn't the bare minimum for donations $1 already? If so, don't state that you have to donate more than $1, all donations should count (grant access to freemum/contributor/whatever).

2. Not quite sure about that, would be quite like internlabs. I'm against this.

3. Again, not quite sure, and about the dedis, they host? How does that work?

4. T-shirt is a good idea, perhaps other freebies in the future as well.

5. Staff forum? There's a reason it's for staff use only. Paying for forum rights is a bad idea.

This and paying for IW5M is also quite shady. Do you remeber the alterOps access via contributor account in the old aIW days? We also stopped accepting new contributors as jerbob didn't want anyone to spend money just to be able to use this service, which was quite wisely.

How about an extended V.I.P. program, meaning the longer you stay VIP the more you get?

Or maybe on a VIP package mention there may be benefits to being on the VIP package and then decide what to give out and when as the time comes

But seriously I think its a good idea. I already have it thought out. We will have a shop page that has all of this info along with the prizes. But one question, all of this goes to NTA? :? (I would think so...)

Access to support questions directly from All of Staff? Good idea? Donate $1 and you get that privilege. Another idea would be some kind of representation in-game that would give you special icon or card title or something. And I think people who donate $10 should get some kind of beta access to IW5M like an older version, that's not up-to-date. They won't get the full access to the files until after it's release. Pay for servers is a bad idea as all you need is the 1.4382 version iw5mp_sever.exe and also the .dll's for it to work on IW5M. Before release of IW5M, there should be a special icon/modified title saying "Donator/VIP" as .iwd's are some what easy to download. That .iwd has to be universal though, something like in aIW M1 where there was <3alterIW something like that. Oh and that B3 access for testers is also a good idea, as MANY people want B3 on MW3. NTA should make B3 work only on IW5M :3 also thst staff camo thing idea should be returned but for all donators.

Totally against every point.

 

Donations regardless of amount should get you a forum title. Nothing else. It should be made clear that donations are an act of selflessness and that there are no special rewards or anything of that sort ESPECIALLY based on the AMOUNT of the donation. C'mon guys. Nobody is getting any of this money and if money is desperately needed for server/hosting/technical costs, NTA should and will make an official announcement clearly stating the amount needed and goals desired.

 

To sum up:

 

- Donations are voluntary acts of support

no reward is expected and none should be given

- Technical costs are a different story and as far as I can understand, there are no issues atm

 

If somebody wants shit for his money, Activision would surely step-up and sell him something.

Plus, if we're not getting into serious legal problems already, that's because this project is seen as "non-profit".

Talking about money here "is not a good karma", if you get what I mean.
