[Help] AMD x6 or an Intel i5

Опубликовано:

Well, I'm buying another PC. I need help choosing between an AMD x6 FX Black Edition FX-6100 and an i5 2400. : :

This PC is a budget one, so if the i5 is worth the extra 60 Euros. I plan on playing BF3 and such.

Also, which motherboard would you suggest for the i5? It must not exceed the price of 60 Euros. Also, how much RAM?

Sorry for the shitty grammar, writing on a PDA isn't very enjoyable.

Thanks in advance for the help.

About graphic cards, I won't advice you to waste too much money on it. Get just the enough to run nowadays games. Graphic cards tend to wear out fast, and that's probably the first piece of hardware that you'll have to replace on your computer, no matter how much you spend on it now. Truth is that there are no "long-lasting graphic cards" nowadays.

I would advice you some GTX560. See the benchmarks here:

You can get a GTX560 for something like 175€ (atleast that's the price here in Portugal). Graphic cards with slight better performance are much more expensive (not worth the difference).

Save the extra coins for a better motherboard (believe me, a good motherboard is really important for system stability, specially since you plan on overclocking).

p.s.: I own an HD6850 and noticed that a friend of mine has a better frame flow with his GTX560. I had a 9800GTX wich broke and needed to be replaced, and I regret moving from nvidia to amd.

The GTX560 is €151 here and the HD 6850 is €119, you just got what you paid for. The 560 is on par with the 6870 and the 6850 is on par with the 550 Ti, this all depends on the game of course.

And I can't really recommend a non-Ti 560.

Intel FTW.

Care to explain why you think Intel is better than AMD?

Here, the GTX560 is only 5€ more expensive than the HD6850, and the benchmarks give a slight advantage to the HD6850. That's whay I tried the AMD GPU.

About the Ti version, here it costs 52€ more than the standard version (175 to 227€). And the performance gains don't seem to be that significant.

Then it's your own fault for not doing your research, the 6850 is not a bad card.
