[Help] AMD x6 or an Intel i5

Опубликовано:

Well, I'm buying another PC. I need help choosing between an AMD x6 FX Black Edition FX-6100 and an i5 2400. : :

This PC is a budget one, so if the i5 is worth the extra 60 Euros. I plan on playing BF3 and such.

Also, which motherboard would you suggest for the i5? It must not exceed the price of 60 Euros. Also, how much RAM?

Sorry for the shitty grammar, writing on a PDA isn't very enjoyable.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Can't edit on the PDA...

Motherboard must be about 60 Euros or less\

give us a link of where u buying all ur pc parts.

and tell me how much u want mboard + cpu coming up to? like do u want mboard and cpu all together for 200 euros?

The i5 2400 performs better at a lower power consumption.

i5 2400 > FX-6100

The Asrock H61DE/S3 is €56 over here and seems like a decent board for that price, you can't overclock on it, though.

This chart here speaks for itself:

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/high_end_cpus.html

Intel Core i5-2400 @ 3.10GHz 6,149

AMD FX-6100 Six-Core 5,579

About the motherboard... assuming that you'll go for the intel processor, I would suggest you not to be too cheap with the motherboard. I won't tell you a model since there are tons where to choose from. But assuming that you want the computer for gaming and that you have a graphic card (or you'll buy one) I will suggest you to buy a motherboard with a P67 or Z68 chipset. The cheapest motherboards out there have H61 or H67 chipsets. Those chipsets ("H" type) are ment to use the processor's onboard graphics.

The P67 doesn't have onboard video output and expects you to have a graphic card. Instead of onboard video capabilities, they use to offer more on other stuff wich are actually useful for you.

The Z68 is an "hybrid" chipset. If you have a graphic card installed, it will disable the onboard graphics (saving you the processor for other tasks). If for some reason you don't have a graphic card installed (if it breaks for example) it will then start using the onboard graphics from the processor.

As for RAM, assuming that you'll be installing W7 x64, I wouldn't recommend you to get less than 8Gb of RAM

2 slots of RAM = bad idea... pick a motherboard with 4 slots of RAM

how much ram u planning to get? 2x4gb ram is enough

EDIT: what about this mboard? http://www.ceneje.si/racunalnistvo/komp ... B3C?bPar=2

Опубликовано:

2x4 is enough today. But application evolution is being way fast in RAM consumption.

He better have a 4 RAM slot motherboard, ready for 32Gb of RAM, because it won't take that long until a computer needs 32Gb of RAM, like nowadays needs 8.

To give you an example, I have a quad-core Q9450 (2.66GHz). It's a fine processor, but it's about to be put aside because I can't get a motherboard for it that will support more than 8Gb of RAM.

So, he should be getting a motherboard that will allow him to make his CPU last longer.

That motherboard would be better suitable, although as I mentioned above, I would discard onboard graphics and would go for more USB, Sata ports, etc

Intel was the first company who made processor so I choose that.

And I saw a video on two same PC's what have AMD and Intel CPU's he was plug out the fan.

What happened?

AMD processor was die and at Intel processor the OS stopped working and the Intel was survive it.

The processors are form the same year and they are same fast, and 2 CPU's tested form AMD and Intel.

The two AMD was die the two Intel was survive it.

I prefer Intel. But AMD is more budget.

You should go with AMD. AMD is way cheaper and making efficient CPU and so what AMD civil computer market. Atleast its made for servers and that evidence proves how stable it would be great for 24/7 use lol. Also you should have 6-8 GB minimum.

>cheaper and more efficient

>the FX-8150 is as fast as an i5-2500k while consuming twice as much power and is as expensive as the i72600k

lel

Atleast its made for servers and that evidence proves how stable it would be great for 24/7 use lol.

Servers do not equal the average consumer pc.

Also you should have 6-8 GB minimum.

Bullshit.

[bullshit about a video from CPUs from 2005 here]

Technology evolves over time, you know?

Terrible choice, especially if you're getting a K-edition CPU, then you would want a board with a Z77 (or Z68/P67) chipset.

>get overclockable CPU

>buy a H77 motherboard

Look for a Z77 motherboard.

The cheapest motherboards out there have H61 or H67 chipsets. Those chipsets ("H" type) are ment to use the processor's onboard graphics.

Not this, H81 and P61 are the ''budget'' chipsets, H67 is used on the higher-end boards as well.

The P67 doesn't have onboard video output and expects you to have a graphic card. Instead of onboard video capabilities, they use to offer more on other stuff wich are actually useful for you.

No. P67 offers overclocking instead of onboard graphics, which does not necessarily mean it's more useful.

The Z68 is an "hybrid" chipset. If you have a graphic card installed, it will disable the onboard graphics (saving you the processor for other tasks). If for some reason you don't have a graphic card installed (if it breaks for example) it will then start using the onboard graphics from the processor.

And Z68 offers SSD caching.

As for RAM, assuming that you'll be installing W7 x64, I wouldn't recommend you to get less than 8Gb of RAM

Why would you recommend him 1GB of RAM with a 64-bit OS?

Thanks for all the replies.

Yes, I'll definitely gonna be OC-ing, and no, I can't really go over 250 or something like that.

It's a birthday gift for my girlfriends brother, and Im not really rich...

I'll look some more through the replies and I'll post my thoughts on what would be best later.

Save some money, pretty sure you can save at least €50.

:?:

1 Byte = 8 bit

1 GigaByte = 8 Gigabit

You said ''I wouldn't recommend you to get less than 8Gb of RAM'', That's right, 8 Gigabit. Like I said, 1 GB = 8 Gb. Yes, there is a difference.

Haha, I'm sure he meant GigaByte.

Well, I've decided to buy an i5, the one I asked about, and one of those motherboards recommended by you find people. One thing left, I'll spend about 150 - 350€ on a GFX card. I've already picked a couple, but I want your guys' suggestions. What'd be the best choice betwen $$$ and performance? But not too powerfull, so the i5 won't bottleneck the GFX card and waste performance power. Keep in mind, I will be overclocking the i5 quite a lot (as far as I can, as long as it won't burn out).

Thanks in advance for the feedback. :>

you don't even know what you're talking about.

the I5-2500k is 2011 architecture while phenom x6 is old so you can't really compare them.

Nobody runs their cpu without heatsink. ._.

Pacman was the first game so you should be playing it....

He's talking about a 5 year old video.
