Just copy your exact client files, and use them as a dedicated server, just add the parameter "-dedicated" in the shortcut. And obviously don't forgot about the server.cfg

While you could host one from your own PC, If you have a 1MB Upload minimum (max 12 players before it gets lagging).

 

Or you can rent a vps, or dedicated box, and upload the server files to there, which would cost you. And most if not all hosting companies offer personal FTP access to the server.

So you host a server with the port 28960 on the same pc you run your client as?

 

That's right, you must run your server first if I am correct? Since that will allow your client to change ports.

But the default port for the client is 28960. Hence why people run other on ports for their servers if they play on the same pc they host. If you start your server first, then client, your client port will be 28961. But if you start client firs, then it's 29860. Which means you need a difference port for your server

My friend tried hosting a server on 28960 and I could only connect to his private session (no idea how that worked)

I would now suggest hosting servers on 28961+ just to be sure
