Need help with some PC parts.

So I am considering upgrading my PC and I need some help with PSU.

 

The GPU(Gigabyte GV-R787OC-2GD) I am gettings needs 500w, but as I dont really know about computer parts, I dont know how powerful PSU to choose.

Would a 600w PSU fit? or do I need a 700w one?

You should buy strongest one so later if you want to update anything you have enough power..

 

Buying a 1500W PSU is a waste of money, he's better off buying a high quality 650W PSU.

Get a good 600w PSU and you'd be fine.

I have the 6850 OC'd Gigabyte version, but if you look forward to OCing yourself you may want to check and see if that cards' voltages are locked, mine are, and there's no way to really unlock them.

 

When I first got my card I was using an offbrand "750w PSU" and because of it being a bad PSU it couldn't provide enough power (~500w) and my PC would just crash every 5 minutes.

Which reminds me of some person on /g/ that wanted to mine Bitcoins with 2 6990's and broke his components by using a $20 1500W PSU.

I've got mixed feelings about the Cooler Master PSUs (in general), I've heard/read both bad and good things about them. I couldn't find any reviews about the Fortron PSU and the GX 700W.

You should read through it so you know what you should be looking for. Stability and efficiency important, but making sure it delivers "clean" energy important as well. I often recommend Antec, Seasonic and Corsair PSUs. Mostly because I've heard/read more positive than negative things about these brands.

Getting a modular PSU will save you cluttered wires, I'd recommend getting a modular PSU over a non-modular one.

 

Remember to keep searching until you've found the perfect PSU.

I'd say go for the CM 650W, you always need to be sure that you have enough, especially if you are planning on OC'ing or upgrading.

I am not planning to OC, but it has factory OC though.

I'd avoid the Builder series if I was going to use expensive hardware, it's the budget series.

 

I have a cooler master, and it is as good as any. No problems with it, never gets hot etc

"Like many other things today the DC Output Quality of the Cooler Master GX 650W is disappointing, and ugly. Test #1 starts off the show with active traces that peak at ~25mV for the 12v rail, ~20mV for the 5v rail, and ~30mV for the 3.3v rail. This only grows throughout testing until we hit the ATX12v specification limit for the 3.3v rail in Test #3 at 50mV. This is with only a 4a load as well. When we switch to Test #4 we see the 3.3v rail's trace amplitude grow once more as it hits ~65mV at 120v. The 100v result was actually larger than this as well, however the unit died before the data was able to be logged. So, had the GX 650W not been a total failure at load testing, it would have failed the DC Output Quality portion of today's review as these results just plain suck."

I will stick with my old amd CPU and amd mobo.

If I get enough cash I will buy i5 2500k and well, some intel mobo.

People need to lay off the numbers, and just look at how it works. It works fine for me, no components have had any issues, even though the required wattage and the specified wattage of the PSU only differs with ~25.

Well CPU is AMD Athlon II x4 640 and mobo is ECS A780LM-M

Could you post all the specifications of your PC? Because it might be a better idea to just build a new PC as soon as you have enough money.

Well here are my system specs...

 

CPU - AMD Athlon II X4 640 Propus 45nm Technology

Mobo - ECS A780LM-M (CPU 1)

GPU - AMD Radeon HD 6670 (ATI AIB)

RAM - 4,00 GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz (9-9-9-24)

Hard drive - 1465GB Western Digital WDC WD15EARX-00PASB0 ATA Device (SATA)

 

Tehnically I will upgrade everything eventually, except for the hard drive.

 

About the PSU, idk. But I can send the new one, what I ordered, back to the store if it has problems.

It most likely rather needs a strong combined +12Volt line (rating >=27 ampere) line than 600W.

My advice would be: better buy a high quality PSU (be quiet etc.) with 550-650W and strong combined +12V line, than a low-end product with 750+W...
