AlterIWNet is a project, the main goal of which is to emulate the IWNet matchmaking system. This will allow people who are sick of Infinity Ward’s negligence of the PC community, or people who just cannot afford the game, to play the game.

IW4M is a modification for a popular first-person shooter adding various oft-requested features such as dedicated servers, modification support, an in-game console, field of view changing as well as new maps and other features to the game. Matchmaking has clearly not been implemented yet - and even if, it's unknown if anyone will ever bother to play it.

I don't know too many people who actually prefer laggy, lawless listen hosts over dedicated servers.

Other than cheaters. I'd imagine they'd love a system with no one to prevent them from abusing everyone else.

IW4M gave us more possibilities... we got the fucking source code, and that's REALLY nice.

Matchmaking... oh god. Matchmaking is the worst thing that I've ever seen. I always get in laggy lobbies. If you want matchmaking, play the normal (lame) game.

No, only the *ahem* nabs will play on Matchmaking which is about 30% of the community.

I'm pretty sure the OP's purpose wasn't to request match making. I think he was just looking to discuss the difference between alterIW's goal and 4D1's goal.
