Can anyone tell me if it is worth getting an AMD FX-4 4170 to replace my current AMD Phenom II X4 965.

It's not going to cost me anything so even a slight gain in performance will do.

Even though the FX has a 4.20GHz clock speed and the Phenom only has a 3.40GHz clock speed, i have been seeing a lot of people that dislike the bulldozer cores, but no definitive answer as to why exactly.

Maybe someone here can help me out.

if you get the FX is there any way you can go back to the phenom if something goes wrong?...i would say do it...since it wont cost you anything...also what is your power supply....and how many cores(just wondering)

In true honesty get a FX-4100 it can be overclocked to produce results such as the 4170, i own a FX-4100 and they boast enough grunt for Gaming. Also you can use your Phenom cooler on it (If its a AM3 because im using a Phenom stock Copper pipe cooler on my FX-4100 with max temps not even peaking 46) Because they are 95 Watt TPD (i think) CPU's bulldozer quads are and a phenom @ 3.3/4 ghz is a 125 watt TDP so use your 125 TDP Phenom cooler on your 95 TDP bulldozer you can get a nice little OC headroom in there aswell... People dismiss them due to the fact they didnt compete to win against Sandy bridge CPU's But install the Windows Bulldozer Patches and they run like a dream mate... IMHO they are ideal cores for the the price they cost...

Hope i helped in a way, Blewk
