I've been playing on aIW for >1 year, loved every second of it. It's a real shame to see it go, Max/NTA/Jerbob etc. you've all created something amazing and I thank you for sharing it with us.

Moving on, if the new aIW will check if the user has a legit MW2 on Steam, does that mean Activision have allowed you to do this? Can anyone shed any insight on this, or related matters.

It doesn't cause financial harm to Activision, it is just a MOD, people will still have to buy the game and therefore Activision gets the money, that's all they care for.

That's not what it used to be, due to the fact that literally any moron could access the game, whether they had it yarr'd or bought it legit. Apparently, the former outnumbered the latter about 30 to 1.

Still, it's not enough to cause Activision any major damage to their financial plans. It was an old game at the time. What pissed them off was the fact that aIW took upon themselves the duty of enabling people with cracked copies to enjoy the vast pleasures of Black Ops and Modern Warfare 3. Now THAT could have been a considerable dent in their profits, so they just decided to pre-emptively nuke the entire god damn project. Doesn't seem fair, isn't, but that's how money works.

I understand this, but Activision are dicks, we all know this, have they actually confirmed that they will allow this?

Also, surely someone will end up developing a work-around to trick the client into thinking the user owns the game on Steam, then won't that cause issues?

I have not heard if Activision are aware of / have approved this project. Although I hope for NTAuthority that he checked with them beforehand...

Obviously he didn't check (quote from jerbob92: "this is not a negotiation"), but ATVI's main reason for the C&D was because it was "causing immense harm" to them, i.e. $$$.

Having a legitimacy check means that ATVI will get the money they want, and as such, they shouldn't be impacted and should not have any intentions to shut this down.

To an extent, I'm pretty sure somewhere in their ToS or the EULA they stated that any unallowed distribution and MODIFICATION of the game will be punished. This belongs in the 'modification' part, yes?
