warnings exist so moderators and tech support can give them and feel happy in the thought they actually punished someone

 

(yes I said tech support, they also seem to act like moderators now)

Obviously that is a manual system. Not automatic. You can compare your user profile to a criminal record. All warnings show how much "minor offences" you have done. Multiple minor offences lead to a ban. Which you can compare to jail.
